I see what comes in applying for employment and the quality of drivers out on the road, these schools, and I use this term lightly concentrate on more classroom and not so much hands on seat time, they give students just enough seat time to pass their road tests, there is a set number of classroom hours and driving hours that have to be met and signed off and verified through FMCSA, it took us 4 years to get to the point of being qualified for in house training, I cover the textbook stuff that actually needs to be taught and concentrate more on the "hands on" aspect of the business, we are a heavy haul petroleum products hauler and i teach aspects pertaining to safe transport of liquid materials, and safe handling of tank vehicles, I have been in the business 35+ years and have hauled everything from agricultural products to solid waste to hazardous materials with the last 25 hauling petroleum products and the best teaching method is good old fashion hands on training and not what the trucking training mills they are running these days we have several trainers and we take a 1 on 1 approach during the off season so we can take the extra time to make sure these drivers a properly trained, no time limits
