China has been obsessed with AMW’s since the late 1950’s. The J50 has been videoed in flight and its AMW’s are clearly seen as being active. If they solved the riddle of structural integrity, it really gives the aircraft an advantage in transonic and supersonic operation in both maneuverability and fuel savings. With the Lambda wing design it solves the stall issue the B2 and the old YB49 suffered from. Stall recover with AMW’s is now possible. China’s Air Force and navy only need to be one dimensional. They have but one goal and that’s to control the South China Sea and keep the Straight of Malacca open for business. They’ve shown no ambitions to project their influence past that sphere for the time being. But this edition of the J50 is destined for carrier use. Twin front nose gear and heavy, Tomcatish landing gear are a clear indication. So perhaps the Chinese have a goal to project global power during the “30’s and beyond.
