In as an E-1 out as an E-5 the highest rank I could achieve in 4 years, honorable discharge, good conduct medal along with a couple other medals & ribbons with stars, a couple letters of commendation. All thru the Mediterranean sea, all around South America and ended up in the Persian Gulf to replace the USS Stark FFG-31 after they were hit with 2 Exocet missiles. Thru the straights of Magellan,thru the Panama Canal, crossed the equator 2 times, thru the Suez Canal and into the Persian Gulf, I flew back to the US from the Persian Gulf with 2 weeks left on my contract I was almost involuntarily extended as things were heating up in the Persian Gulf.
