Snowmobiling is booming.
Active Registrations: Dropped from 233,124 in 2021-22, to 228,943 in 2022-23, and 212,369 in 2024-25.
New and Renewed Registrations: Fell from a recent high of 83,784 during the 2022-23 season to just 40,012 for the 2024-25 season.
Contributing Factors: Industry insiders and local clubs point to back-to-back winters with historically low snow totals in the Midwest, which dampens enthusiasm for renewals. Rising sled prices, economic pressures, and stagnant wages have also contributed to an aging rider demographic and reduced participation.
