our dad's could have raced... we had an 84 Chevette diesel he used around town. fucker blew a lot of smoke, couldn't beat a penguin walking in a race. one time my grandmother was driving it with my brother and I in the car, she pulled out of the grocery store onto old hwy 29 and matted it as there were some dudes on Harley's coming up on her.... they backed the fuck off when the coal started rolling out.
we also had the 78 Olds Custom Cruiser complete with woodgrain and Keystone turbine wheels for the summer I got to pick out because 'Dukes of Hazard' we picked that car up brand new in Michigan from my dad's cousins dealership... while they were doing the paperwork I came running into the office and told them to stop because it had a Buick steering wheel and one Pontiac hubcap. apparently that was GM quality control back in the day. I drove that car all through h/s and it was awesome with the rear facing third row... 3 in the front, 3 in the middle, two in the rear with a quarter barrel between them.
couple weeks ago I drove over the Mackinac Bridge in the Tahoe with a snowmobile trailer in tow, made me think of my dad driving us home over the same bridge and through the UP in the Custom Cruiser on the way home. I like wagons... always will and still have one, or two if you count the Tahoe which is really what most SUV's and Crossovers really are.
kid's today have no idea what it was like growing up in the 70's and 80's...
