Not sure what you mean by "close the border". I've heard nothing about that whatsoever. Granted, there is far less travel than there once was, but that's by personal choice not decree.
Most people (not all, like AC probably) understand that line 9 that brings fuel to eastern Canada runs through the US before returning to Canada. They also understand if we stopped sending electricity, there's a pretty good chance the pipeline would get turned off as well.
Far better to place a hefty excise tax on oil and potash.
It would instantly change the equation of the trade imbalance Mr. Trump speaks of.
We would instantly be buying more from you than you would buy from us and the problem solved.
And rest assured, the citizens wouldn't pay the tax, it would come from the magical money fairies who take care of the tariffs.
