If you are racing on or crossing trails, you have to work with clubs. Brian wanted to run the Willmar race on the trails and ditches around there, the clubs wanted nothing to do with it.
Cross the tracks, railroad. Cross roads, you are working with township, county, state, or federal.
And if you get into certain areas, you get busy-bodies like county commissioners that are super anti-racing (Park Rapids) or local residents who hate the ditch racing (Nissawa), etc.
When Brian had the circuit and was getting 7 Clams money, it was he was getting 7 Clams money or not. There were several other casinos interested in hosting races, but 7 Clams put the ax to that (plus they were changing out marketing staff faster then underwear).
Unfortunately Todd really needs to expand out past MN to go terrain racing and I'm not certain he is willing to do that.
There used to be quite a bit of XC racing in North Dakota and Canada near the border, but then you get stuck dealing with the Canadian side of things plus a border crossing.
I think there even used to be a short lived XC race in the Black Hills somewhere.
