Trump's 'Presidential Walk of Fame' Was Funded by Taxpayers with Money Diverted from National Parks, Report Claims
Trump has publicly claimed that he funded parts of the project with his own money, but a new report suggests his partisan West Wing exhibit cost taxpayers more than $1 million
National parks funds were also reportedly used for the installation of imported African granite for the walkway beside Trump's installation, which the president publicly claimed to have paid for himself
According to the report, taxpayer funds on projects in the Washington, D.C., area have increased by over 92%, as more than 900 projects at national parks across the country have gone without expected funds
Spending on Washington-area projects increased by around $100 million since October 2025, per The Atlantic, while projects in the rest of the country lost out on $854 million in the same time period โ a 68% increase compared to the prior 12 months.
That shift in funding came as Trump has begun construction of the White House ballroom, renovated the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, gilded bronze statues of horses, and proposed new monuments in Washington. The total bill for his reimagining of the capital is estimated to cost north of $1 billion, according to a Financial Times report, including a reported $500 million no-bid contract for the ballroom.
Itโs not clear how much of the funds intended for national parks are being diverted to these projects, which Trump frequently claims are being funded by himself or private donors.
