My old man sold Valdi his 1970 Polaris 792 Twin free air back in the late 80โs or early 90โs.
My story with that motor: My dad bought it to put in his 1970 TX. But it was just the block, jugs, heads, recoil and stator and he was never able to source the correct carbs or pipe for it (mostly due to a lack of time and funds). But my dad wanted to be sure it ran, and โpickleโ it before he set it on the shelf for another day. So he set it up on the work bench, squirted some fuel in the crank case, dumped a small amount down the spark plug holes and began pulling it over. He not so wisely had my brother and I (all of 10 and 7 years old) โholdโ it on the bench as he put his foot up against it to pull the recoil. On the 4th or 5th pull, it fired, and went full wide open as you can imagine for a good 5-7 secondsโฆ scared the living shit out of my brother and I so much that we ran out of the shopโฆ as it finishes winding down we can hear my dad โget your asses back in here and grab this motor!โ He was laying on the floor holding it with his foot from falling to the concrete floorโฆ a memory Iโll never forget.
