The world will tremble at Canada's power! Can somebody just tell them to just go lay down? Thanks.
Inclusive design leads to stronger operational capability.
The soldier operational clothing and equipment modernization (SOCEM) is a multi-year initiative focused on improving comfort, fit and performance for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members of all genders and body types.
Using Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus), the initiative identified gaps in the 25-year-old clothing and equipment system, which was not designed to accommodate diverse body types. This affected comfort, mobility and performance, and increased risk of injury for some CAF members.
To help support a more diverse CAF workforce, SOCEM worked closely with minority groups to apply a GBA Plus lens throughout the design process. This led to the introduction of more inclusive garment options, including Straight, Contour and Maternity cuts, as well as expanded sizing options.
This initiative demonstrates how applying GBA Plus can lead to a more inclusive, effective and operationally relevant solutions for the Defence Team.
