Besides a little clutch and suspension tuning, the Jag X project is complete. I started with a 92 EXT because I wanted the painted side pods and it would be hard to find these as good used parts. If it weren't for wanting those, getting a 93+ sled especially with a top pod would have saved me so much time. I think the only things original on this is the paint on tunnel, the gas tank, and the gauges.
New control arms, fully serviced and cosmetic restore of my original 92 Prowler special shocks, lowered the tunnel to 93+ spec, several skids made into one using 93+ rails to match the 93+ dropped geometry, newer camoplast "sport" track .91", seat cover and foam from my 94Z, NOS 92 Jag special hood (without the fan air ports cut out!) and nose cone, custom tunnel graphics made, carburetors fully disassembled and sent out for cosmetic restore, new throttle cables and choke cables, engine disassembled, resealed, nos pistons and a used jug, new mikuni intakes, new air box boots, near new 00's era 6 tower clutch, new top cross member from 96 Jag, newer style handlebars from 96 Jag for use without the bar gauges, 96 Jag oil tank style with newer style coolant reservoir, firewall plate with gas shutoff on firewall, newer expansion sourced, wiring harness used from 96 Jag and modified for LC, console trim used from a 93 Jag Z I parted (matched the colors of the hood gauge area and has factory tether location), 90's era plastic skis, NOS ball joints, new semi gloss paint on front half of chassis, plastic inner fenders from 96 jag to match with hood, 96 Jag toe holds/side pod reinforcement supports, many new or restored hardware through the build. There was an incredible amount of time spent just converting alot of the sled to 93+ parts/setup that isn't glamorous or glitzy but was just for my OCD liking from being around these sleds. Most of the ideas of this sled was when restoring the Prowler special, there were many things I wanted to do but didn't want to mess with a rare sled.. like the 550, the 93+ low rise seat foam, the dropped rear tunnel, the newer oil tank and coolant tank setup, the firewall with gas valve back on it, the Jag style hood, etc. This is kind of my ultimate build, the best parts imo from this era and chassis.
This was by far the biggest sled project I've done. Hundreds and hundreds of hours. Much much more than if you were just to completely disassemble a machine and reassemble. It was not only a full restoration but there was a lot of modification and finding out differences and roadblocks as you go, and then fully disassembling the parts sled as you go to source parts and hardware, and restoring alot of those parts as well, and then reinstalling the parts sled. This machine started in fairly poor shape, the body was nice but underhood had a lot of corrosion and mechanically was a basket case. I'm happy with how it turned out, especially underhood, it looks new, tidy and well done. But it's a cool build overall and throughout, nothing was overlooked. It started to become a little too much at times as seasons changed and priorities shifted, but I'm glad I got it done and happy with how it turned out.
