A lot of the increase can come from water bans .
I see it all the time . The area I work in isnt far from the now partialy closed fort devens army base. Yrs ago all local firefighters trained there with firefighting foam .
Fast forward 35 yrs and we find out the foam had p fas forever chemicals in it. Towns start installing $100 million filtration buildings and pumping systems .
Before they were finished, water could only come from wells that were not contaminated, resulting in limited available water.
Now this is where basic math comes into play . These are just number to explain what happened and are not accurate. Say the water dept used to sell 100 million gallons and doing so generated 3 Million $ to run the water dept. Now with water bans on outdoor water use they only sell 15 million Gallons . They still need to generate $3 million to run the water dept. And then more money to pay for treatment facilities. Then add on that the cost of running the dpt goes up every yr with increases in employee pay , hc ins cost increases for employees , truck and equitment replacement cost increases ect.
So a lot of people would say " fuck em , it's my l;awn , I pay my , bill Ill water whenever I want . Then they get their bill and lose their shit as it cost 3 times as much as it did before the ban.
