Schwartz spent over $900,000 to $1 million on professional lobbyists to press his clemency case directly to the White House, the Department of Justice, and Congress. He also received public advocacy from conservative activist Laura Loomer and criminal justice reform advocate Alice Marie Johnson. The White House maintained that paid lobbyists did not influence the president's decision.
