Stillwater bridge in Old Town collapses during construction work
OLD TOWN, Maine (WABI) - The Old Town Police Department is asking the public to avoid the Stillwater Bridge area Thursday afternoon following the collapse of the replacement bridge being built on Stillwater Ave.
The Old Town Police Chief David White says three people have non-life threatening injuries. Construction crews were pouring concrete when the new Llewellyn Estes Bridge collapsed into the river, White said.
โRoads are open for travel, and thereโs still crews trying to clean up because it did fall into the river, so theyโre going to have to figure out how to get all that stuff out,โ White said. โStay away from that section of the bridge for now. The temporary bridge is fine. You could travel on that, just stay away from the other stuff.โ
