WASHINGTON — Americans are paying more to fill up their tanks this Labor Day holiday than any other Labor Day weekend in U.S. history, with both gas and diesel reaching record highs, according to AAA.
The national average for regular gasoline hit $4.15 per gallon Monday, marking the first time prices have ever topped $4 on Labor Day. It's nearly a dollar more than Labor Day last year and more than 30 cents higher than the previous holiday weekend record of $3.82 set in 2012.
