More reparations proposed

Recommended Posts

On Thursday, presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) came out in favor of legislation that has been equated to "gay reparations." Under the Refund Equality Act, same-sex couples would be able to amend their past taxes, readjusting with jointly-filed tax returns and accepting refunds from the IRS.

“The federal government forced legally married same-sex couples in Massachusetts to file as individuals and pay more in taxes for almost a decade,” Warren said in a statement, according to NBC News. “We need to call out that discrimination and to make it right — Congress should pass the Refund Equality Act immediately.”

"It wasn’t until marriage equality became law that gay & lesbian couples could jointly file tax returns—so they paid more in taxes," the Democratic presidential candidate posted to Twitter on Sunday. "Our government owes them more than $50M for the years our discriminatory tax code left them out. We must right these wrongs."

I don’t know that I have that big of a problem with this (assuming the state pays it all).  If they were legally married, they should have gotten all the same tax rights as all others.

Just because they are freaks destined for extinction from birth doesn’t mean the Government should get to impose stiffer tax penalties on them.  Cheesy tax cash grabbing.  GMGW- Gay Made Global Warming

Long over due!  :bc:

We have all stood idly by while uncle Sam has had  his foot on the necks of gays.  Just another black mark on the long list of atrocities committed by this disgusting Country.

I've heard it all now.   Gay reparations.

The mere fact that there is different rates for married/single should be unconstitutional.   Equal protection under the law.

I have no issue supporting this. The government owes these people money and they should pay it.

when something is legal according to state law not federal it does not require the feds to adopt it therefore nothing is owed.  I will say IMO the argument for disparate treatment of taxes is for sure more legit than black reparations.

all reparations are a complete joke and just another sign that we are doomed as a society.

I was rather optimistic after the reparations hearing last week in the house as several people of color from both political parties gave testimony against the idea. Just a Dem look at me stunt anyways.

should people in states where weed is now legal get reparations from the state for being convicted of possession prior to legalization?

Just thinking the same thing.  If you believe in this , then absolutely.   Excluding white, straight, men.   Nothing for you!

Exactly...are we at the point that every new law and regulation has to be applied retroactively? How far do we go back? Whole thing is stupid and nothing but vote pandering by Lieawatha.

No, but they should have it wiped off their record.

Well it is Monday and  the first Democratic debate is on Thursday which mean we should have three full days of crazy left wing freebie program proposals coming at us from 25 yes 25 candidates. You would have to be mildly retarded to think any of this crap makes it through Congress.

All income tax should be illegal and if there is an income tax it should a flat number that everyone has and there shouldn’t be any refunds.

If income tax was illegal how do you propose we pay the bills?

In a way, I see her point  but for the Dems as far as the Presidential race, it's all about the pandering.  Where she fucked up was when she spoke so passionately about the poor children at the border. It's so much of our moral obligation to save them but never mind an unborn, that's a women's right to decide if they want to crush it's skull at 8-9 months.
