I am a plumber and I’ve seen copper piping in our area (Lake Michigan water) that’s 70 years old and it still looks as good as the day it was installed. Certain water conditions will affect it especially if you have high sulphur in your water, that shit eats copper like crazy. Everybody just assumes that PEX is the answer and it does have it’s benefits but I tell customers all the time that it has to be around for about 50 years to tell it’s true test of time. Where pex really shines is if it freezes, most times it will expand but not break. Pex is also cheap and far less labor intensive. Copper is proven but you won’t see it being used on most new homes simply because of cost.
