I have met and chatted with Garlits a number of times at tracks in Mi , Ohio and IN. Great guy. If you ever get the chance , go to his museum of drag racing in Florida, it is well worth the visit.

The only big time racer that I've met was Big Daddy Don Garlits. My boss at the greenhouse that I worked for in HS was an old school drag racer. He used to race what became top fuel funny car and knew Garlits from back in the day. I went to a NHRA race in Quebec with my boss the summer that Eddie Hill broke the 300mph barrier in a dragster. Garlits was there and my boss started chatting with him about old times. Next thing ya know my old boss was helping on a motor rebuild between rounds.
