Let's make it $100/hr. If $15 solves so many problems $100 will be the cure all. A very small % of the population works for M.W. Less than 2% of the workforce. Of that 2% 75% worked jobs that received tips and really earned more. Illegal immigration is the largest strain on wages.
Angry ginger
lets leave it to the states to do since they know what the income and expenses of their citizens are better than the fed government. Certainly in NYC, Boston, Seattle, San Fran the number should be $15 or higher. in podunk IA maybe 10 is fair, in NH maybe $13. Hell even within some states the number prob should be different. Fed government knows this, it's how they pay their own employees so it's easy enough to apply if they insist on a national minimum wage. One of the most liberal counties in Iowa (Johnson) couldn't manage it properly from Iowa City to small towns outside it.
CFM
There’s many areas in the country that $15 hr is really big. Good luck getting that 52 weeks a year too. So, brings up the gorilla in the room that not all areas have the same needs/wants/values/andvetc. Thus blanket federal laws/ and even state laws sometimes (thus why we have town/municipal govt’s) don’t always work for the people. Trump showed us you can limitlessly print money.....20% of all dollars in circulation printed last year and it doesn’t make a difference. There’s gonna be so many people out of a job within the next few years minimum wage won’t even matter. Can you imagine how many jobs will be lost when autonomous big rigs start rolling out. XCR1250
Do retailers who would be forced to raise employee wages absorb that increase or raise the prices on the products the sell to the public?

Impossible to absorb for many industries. Some like fast food labor is a minimum 25% of costs. Retail is high as well.
CFM
You have to raise prices, but for many retailers they’ll lose too much business. Also remember, all employees will want a raise. Fucking crazy to having a big jump in minimum wage. Just more gov’t workets with little or no business understanding. And lack of street smarts. Big city living or exoensive states like CA is not rest of rural America.
Matt
New paper exposes a preponderance of evidence that increasing the minimum wage indeed does cost jobs. Even the CBO estimates up to 3.7M jobs lost if the minimum wage is federally set to $15/hour. https://www.nber.org/papers/w28388?utm_campaign=ntwh&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ntwg2 Edited January 26, 2021 by Matt

Guys like me have to raise prices. The increase will cause inflation and even if costs didnt go up, the dollar will be worth less. The real winner will be insurance companies selling workmans comp policies. The real losers will be folks on social security who's buying power will shrink.
