Goldman Sachs bans top employees from donating to Trump: Reports

Lets hear the response from all you anti-Wall Street big money people. :lmao:

Just another reason to vote for Trump.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/09/07/goldman-sachs-bans-top-employees-from-donating-to-trump-report.html

Investment bank Goldman Sachs has banned its high-ranking employees from contributing money to certain campaigns including that of U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to reports in Politico and Fortune.

The online politics magazine reported Tuesday that the bank had expanded its political restrictions to partners of the firm. It cited an email that was sent out last week by the bank telling its employees about its rules on political activities.

Politico reported Goldman sent an email saying that beginning September 1, partners would not be allowed to engage in political activities or make "contributions to candidates running for state and local offices, as well as sitting state and local officials running for federal office."

The policy change is meant to prevent employees from violating pay-to-play rules and to minimize damage to the firm's reputation from any potential violations. Pay-to-play schemes involve campaign contributions or other payments made by investment advisers to state and local government officials in an attempt to influence the awarding of lucrative public contracts, according to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Goldman Sachs was not immediately available for comment when contacted by CNBC.

The penalty for failing to comply with this rule can include fines and a temporary ban on the firm from conducting business with governmental clients, Politico reported.

The email cited by Politico does not mention Trump's name but the business magazine Fortune said it had obtained a copy of the memo in which Goldman specifically mentions the Trump-Pence campaign as one partners cannot support any longer.

Banned donations include those to any federal candidate who is also a current state or local official, Fortune reported. This would rule out the Trump/Pence ticket, it noted. Pence is the sitting Governor of Indiana.

Fortune also noted that the rules ban donations to politicians running for state or local offices, as well as donations to state officials who are seeking federal office.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton currently doesn't hold office and vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine is a U.S. senator and wouldn't be subject to the rules.

Something doesn't smell quite right on this article.  I mean what percentage of partners are there at Goldman? 1%? 2%?  Not much more I'm sure.  And partners all need to agree through a board or proxy vote usually so.........  And it's unlikely these partners would contribute directly but rather fund a super pac to do so.  All about nothing...and unless you're an imbecile, you already know big banks and Wall street are sitting firmly in Hillary's pockets already.

But, I agree, this will help pull more anti-Hillary votes in so I'm for it.  :bc:

As a candidate, Donald Trump was quick to criticize Wall Street, but that’s where the president-elect found two key figures for his economic team.

Former Goldman Sachs partner Steve Mnuchin will be nominated as Treasury secretary, and billionaire businessman Wilbur Ross was selected as Commerce secretary. Both have spent their careers as Wall Street investors.

The economic grease behind Mr. Trump’s Carrier deal is conventional, with promises of tax cuts and contracts, but the timing and political benefits are not, reports CBS News correspondent Major Garrett. The deal gives the Trump transition an economic victory in the heartland, one that aides say is likely to eclipse all news and speculation about future Cabinet picks and scrutiny of not-so populist secretaries nominated so far.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence and future White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus met with Republican leaders on Capitol Hill Wednesday, vowing to cut business taxes, reduce federal regulation and re-write trade deals.

Meanwhile, at Trump Tower, Mnuchin, a life-long Wall Street financier, previewed the next administration’s economic plans.

“We’re going to have the most significant middle income tax cut since Reagan,” Mnuchin said.

“The tax plan has both the corporate aspects to it, lowering corporate taxes so we make U.S. companies the most competitive in the world,” he also said.

Mr. Trump’s choice of Mnuchin for Treasury and Ross for Commerce signals a turning away from candidate Trump’s attacks on Wall Street corruption.

“When you cast that ballot, just picture a Wall Street board room, filled with the special interests who have been bleeding your country and your city and every place else,” Mr. Trump had said in a September rally in Novi, Michigan.
