Jerry 976
I have craftsman, channel lock and Kobolt brands work fine for me.
jonlafon1
channel lock. Also a cheap ass pair from menards or somewhere. Work better then the expensive ones. . Never had a pair that was worth a pinch of shit really. The ones that come with other tips is a bonus. Sometimes the different diameter tips work better in certain clips.
Platinum Contributing Member Highmark Posted May 1 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted May 1 (edited) Somewhat depends on the size of snap rings most used on. We have an old Mac or SnapOn that ratchets closed on large ones that's really nice. Had it for 24 years. Similar to this. https://www.grainger.com/product/3R312?gucid=N:N:PS:Paid:GGL:CSM-2295:4P7A1P:20501231&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0MexBhD3ARIsAEI3WHIj4y-l6JBQfe6GMRG4X_hJtLJGi5C402RRn4nqqD-k4fPjHIesdkYaAgGXEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds I could see it being nice on smaller ones as well. https://www.amazon.com/OTC-4513-Stinger-Heavy-Duty-Snap-Ring/dp/B0002STRG8/ref=sr_1_4?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.XbOFC10i5bU_N5o7sixzJjBjYaeWvD7bx8Dn_uUsPvrxCyY4wGByt3oYGLpjhWhlZ6RJahohXm8Ozgnt3JrkY6UWuq8hz3KqlTfYA_I3O5r4yQjuo7Jd-c3OKEJoRX46M4RjNfhyfBS7JSYSHgS2BI2jJtdl5pnVr6vuJ12GJzRr3HvMw-rgyxztV2cOpCoF7x2fOJtKuQV04X6PD9IH7Ya9zGJo0ni7OqJsZCem5Yo.NNrxZH4Q3rDdJK3SixuuNB0uRKf0j_bKHXhFvyutlu4&dib_tag=se&keywords=ratcheting+snap+ring+pliers&qid=1714587813&sr=8-4 Edited May 1 by Highmark
teamgreen02
I have the ones from Channelock. They come with a variety of different tips you can swap as well as the ability to switch from internal to external snap rings. Regardless of what you use, you will end up yeeting those things across the shop. https://www.amazon.com/Channellock-927-Precision-Retaining-Interchangeable/dp/B000TG80SY/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1LM2NSF133CZF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.fT7xlSMduFvndxPXN_kGHtJBu8KlMtskKr3BCNyuqABgRmjXQwYtpXCtcLWc3Jy-c_Q3EFSyqGTKSPxpAP_K2CaC94hfTPI6Cr1A5Tj_2xcuiolCNLOMt0I6AD-73w5tToA2HKbkIoskK2cPow43ew7fWjA93KnRfRyrgLwR_CDGApLVXv8UB9MJdBPEOye5Q9s4UMH_Pcf1Q5tx6FiqKFHDR79gGXVpFNWW9aewIXWSXKZ3TO_mo_nJKFWzfz7J603IdQmH5Gs1GJmhIRrJkVeyXaPSbInvf8zIMpGh7M8.eifOjKvFxq03RxLpkdgsPinrb6cDvdwYVugf0GHomXQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=channel%2Block%2Bsnap%2Bring%2Bplier&qid=1714588108&sprefix=channel%2Block%2Bsnap%2Bri%2Caps%2C108&sr=8-5&th=1
Potatodigger1
I like these ones, different sizes and angles. https://www.amazon.com/2-Pc-Circlip-Pliers-Set/dp/B00BD9RNUC/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?adgrpid=55240552319&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.3t9kORiDDWG6DcPBx9kjhF1TobBQrLeUZOmyr4nLY93K9nxZE68PTS-wHyJMPbLsVKPOxXx-3toB7xHL6ltFgQx7VR2G20XBXzmYAnrTQOYaPxAez9MF1Ey_8-nKkEaPd9uEGZXUyGv6ZqRfi1bKmKXdeTlFY47ur4psAXm-mIncwzrY_YuCNBafe6yVXxrmxElk8tOHQnFl3VUoCAAh9g.78GUKhMLLjOw9F_pY-eXg180HGb9gmws9stVd99HhlE&dib_tag=se&hvadid=580808023144&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9019484&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=673020671170224086&hvtargid=kwd-308908393873&hydadcr=20347_13324766&keywords=knipex+snap+ring+pliers&qid=1714589975&sr=8-6 https://www.homedepot.com/p/KNIPEX-9-in-45-Angled-Internal-Circlip-Pliers-44-31-J32/205944431
Mag6240
Channel Lock - that’s the one I’ve been using, and like I said decent, but has lost the ability to completely squeeze that last 1/8” or so that makes a big difference on some idler wheels. So a second pliers is now needed to squeeze it that last 1/8”. I guess if I can get 10+ years out of another, that’s not a bad lifetime for ~$25-30. Carlos Danger
It depends on what size you are talking. 1 inch or less any cheap brand will work. I take apart some 3 and 4 inch snap rings that will give you a need for a band aid if they slip off and for that I use OTC.
XCR1250
I have so many brands, types, and varieties that it would be hard to choose which is best.
racinfarmer
For every day use on the Jesus Clips, I spent the big bucks and bought a set of Facom pliers with changeable tips. $140. https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/04571246 I also have a few sets of the Channellocks (Lange is the same in orange) with the changeable tips. Like $25 a set. Worth it either way you go. Facom and Channellocks tips are interchangeable. For ripping Team secondaries and larger stuff apart, I bought the Klutch brand from Northern Tool and ground the tips down to fit. The Facom and Channellocks just don't have the rigidity to take those apart. https://www.northerntool.com/klutch-9in-external-snap-ring-pliers-39915 Edited May 2 by racinfarmer
