None of this has anything to do with a dog being hit by a sled...  Not sure about you, but the average person's head is a good long ways from the point of impact with a car, or sled, while the dogs head is going to be the first thing hit, in an impact with a sled.

BTW there is almost a book worth of regulations automakers have to follow to make collisions with pedestrians safer for the pedestrian.  Exactly 0 for snowmobile dog collisions.

You are either really naive or stupid. I’m strongly betting on the latter. But let’s follow your logic on this. Your source of the quote, Jess Rogers the Polaris spokesman, uses an ambiguous term “appropriate speed”. What is an appropriate speed? How fast is an appropriate speed? You see what he did there? He made a statement that provided no meaningful information. He’s good at this because he’s a company spokesmen. When this goes to court, the musher’s lawyer will use any public statements Polaris makes about this incident against them. Jess Roger’s isn’t going to include a hard mph number in his statement because he knows it’ll be used against them. The Polaris legal team is going to hope they get a jury filled with dumbasses like yourself who don’t know the difference what they are being told. 
 

Three dogs didn’t die getting hit by a sled going 5-20 mph. Excessive speed for the conditions on that public trail is what killed the dogs whether you like that fact or not. The Troopers haven’t concluded their investigation. When they find the Polaris factory rider at fault are you going to accuse them of being windshield washing fluid drinkers too?

Jimwit… I mean Krom, were the dogs deaf, blind, stupid and totally lacking in reaction time and self preservation instincts? I’m trying to understand your scenario of a sled plodding along at 20 mph, or the “appropriate speed” per Polaris spokesman, and not a single dog tries to get out of the way? They are harnessed together but they have latitude to move to the side. Was the musher asleep? Wouldn’t he have yelled “haw” or “gee” to try swerve away from the snowmobile? Surely he would have heard the snowmobile coming long before it barreled into him on the trail. Particularly at the sedentary pace this you and others on this thread are so certain of. 
 

It all seems rather odd that this sled, obviously going at a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade pace managed to kill three dogs. How do you figure it happened?

If said rider was doing say 30mph and the dog sled 15mph, that is still a net 45mph collision.

Really. These are Iditarod sled dogs that run all the way to Nome. They follow the same trail as the Iron Dog. This isn’t some Karen in the local park with two hyper labs pulling her all over hell’s half acre with no control. 
 

You know what you do when you come up on a dog sled team on a multi use trail while riding a snowmobile. You fucking stop! Same trail etiquette you give equestrians on multi use trails when you are on your bike. This isn’t a hard concept. The Polaris rider was on the clock while he was “testing” he had all the time in the world to not be an inconsiderate asshole. 
 

I continue to be amazed at the mentality of the so called riders on this site. Small wonder why riding areas continue to get shut down.

If said sled was speeding, or being ridden erratically,  or on the wrong side of the trail, or had some one on the handle bars, etc, don't you think the musher would have reported that to the police. And in the article the police said no charges were being laid. You best get on to the next bottle of washer fluid.
