From one end of the political spectrum to the other, there is a grievance, real or not that makes basic empathy difficult. I can think of many of my own, and can see many of those my political opposite, would find disagreeable.. I am not proud of it, but I'm pretty much out of fucks to give. Causes I used to find alliance with, I no longer give two shits if their rights and freedoms are taken away.
