Trump administration advances plan to cut protections for largest national forest

Source: The Guardian/US

The Trump administration has announced it will move forward with a plan to roll back regulations protecting millions of acres in America’s largest national forest from logging, sparking an outcry from environmental advocacy organizations, Alaskan tribal nations, and fishermen.

More than half of the Tongass national forest – a 16.7m-acre old-growth temperate rainforest in south-east Alaska – has been protected for the last two decades by the so-called “Roadless Area Conservation Rule”, which prohibits development in designated wild areas. The US Forest Service is expected to release a final environmental impact statement on Friday which would allow for the Tongass to be exempt from the rule, moving one step closer to ending the protections entirely.

Clear cutting select spots rejuvenates the forest. They do it in the National forest by my cabin. Looks like crap when they’re doing it but a few years later and it’s coming back. It’s the right way to manage the forest IMO.

Thanks Trump, that's exactly how it should be managed, I live in a National Forest and it really helps new regrowth and is needed badly. Naturally Tree-Huggers don't approve unless the Forest is used for Bicycling or Hiking.

Can’t have it both ways. If they’re not going to manage the forest and just leave it be they’re going to have to accept the big forest fires every year. :dunno:

We had some Forest Fires when I was  Vol. Firefighter for 15 years, 1 fire covered a rather large area, thank God all the  local Departments got together and were able to make the fires out before they got too large.

a 16.7m-acre old-growth temperate rainforest in south-east Alaska – has been protected for the last two decades

So it has been protected since Obama was POTUS?  Geez, the headline makes it sound like it is now going to be a free-for-all.  The media plays these idiots like puppet masters.

That's the kind of junk news MC TikTok loves to post.

The former head of National Forest who recently retired is from this area originally and has moved back here when he retired from his position in Washington, he and others from The National Forest Office here has said The Forest exists primarily for Logging purposes and that recreational uses are secondary..

Yeah no effect on the water....nothing to look at here just Corporate America making billions off the taxpayers while destroying a National resource.

And its all OK with the Trumptards here.

People might take you seriously if you didn’t find three to five things to bitch about trump on a daily basis.

Did you bother to find out why they are removing these protections? Or are you just assuming it has a corporate America tie?

Roadless forest lead to problems.   Fire lanes are created for a reason.   Bravo Mr. President.

The stupid ass liberals who hate all carbon emissions are directly responsible for the release of as much CO2 from fires as the state emits in a year. Fucking morons... Instead of responsible logging/harvesting which sequester millions of tons of carbon in wood products, they'll just let it burn, or fall to the forest floor and decay.

Party of science... 🤣

All electric cars by 2035. Maybe they can get their act together by then? Meh, easier just to blame climate change.
