Depends on how you look at the whole picture. Near equal return for the Federal Govt as for dollar in dollar out. Given the average salary being saved is $40K. Anything over $40K the govt is making that subsidy back in Fed Income Taxes. That money after tax also stays there is the key...

This is the best article I found. The average wage for the jobs saved are almost $31 and hour for a 5 million dollar tax credit. There is a 1 million dollar investment in workforce education and 1 million tax credit for education. On a 1069 jobs with an average wage of $30.91 an hour and a $16 million dollar investment by Carrier in there indiana plant and it wont take to long to get 7 million back and then some. United Technologies chief executive Gregory Hayes said at an event that the company will invest more than $16 million over two years to keep its Indianapolis plant in the state. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it has offered Carrier $5 million in conditional tax credits based on a plan to retain 1,069 jobs with an average wage of $30.91 per hour, spokeswoman Abby Gras said. She declined to say how many of those jobs are at the plant or at the company's headquarters, but the Wall Street Journal reported the deal would save about 800 of the 1,400 jobs at the plant and about 300 at the headquarters. Indiana is also offering $1 million in training grants to support workforce development and $1 million in tax credits, Gras said. The agreement has not been finalized yet. http://www.stltoday.com/business/local/carrier-gets-tax-breaks-but-it-s-still-sending-jobs/article_d2f958e5-1eaf-5401-93b1-c6b0990acab2.html
Angry ginger
i've got no issue with what trump and the state did,, end of the day it's better to have these people working and paying taxes but these deals need to be the exception and not become the rule because if the states shelling out 3k per year per employee and only collecting $1200 they are in a deficit until year 6 or 7. what the feds, fica, prop taxes are aren't directly relevant to where the money is coming from to provide the subsidy. if the economy was stronger and these jobs could be replaced at even 75-80% of the current wage the state would be better off letting them go. Zambroski
Has anybody mentioned the most obvious benefit of this deal yet? I didn't see it. That's a 1000 people with spendable income in that area. What's that worth in sales taxes and revenues? What's that worth with the mulitiplier effect? Its About 3500 jobs total. Sometimes we miss the correlating benefits looking for the simpel math.

Trump shot Carrier in the knee as they were running for mexico. He and his admin kept them here for next to nothing.... Wisconsin recount is going to cost at least half of Carrier incentive with nothing to show for it.
