60 ex-CIA officials write letter to Trump on security clearances

Senior officers issue separate statement

President Donald Trump attends the G-7 summit on May 27, 2017 in Taormina, Italy.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sixty former CIA officials warned President Donald Trump in a statement on Friday that "the country will be weakened if there is a political litmus test applied before seasoned experts are allowed to share their views."

The letter, which comes after Trump's decision to revoke former CIA Director John Brennan's security clearance, was signed by former CIA officials who served under both Republican and Democratic administrations in positions such as analysts, senior analysts and officers.

It adds to a growing outcry against the President's recent action and comes after more than a dozen former senior intelligence officials denounced the move as "ill-considered" and "unprecedented" in a separate statement.

"All of us believe it is critical to protect classified information from unauthorized disclosure," reads the statement from the former CIA officials. "But we believe equally strongly that former government officials have the right to express their unclassified views on what they see as critical national security issues without fear of being punished for doing so."

The statement goes on to say, "Our signatures below do not necessarily mean that we concur with the opinions expressed by former Director Brennan or the way in which he expressed them. What they do represent, however, is our firm belief that the country will be weakened if there is a political litmus test applied before seasoned experts are allowed to share their views."

The President announced his decision to revoke Brennan's clearance on Wednesday and accused the former CIA chief, who has been a prominent critic of Trump, of "lying" and giving "increasingly frenzied commentary," which the President described as "wholly inconsistent with access to the nation's most closely held secrets."

Later, however, Trump connected his move to strip Brennan's security clearance to the Russia investigation during an interview with the Wall Street Journal, saying the probe was a "witch hunt" and "these people led it."

The President has said he is considering revoking the security clearances of other individuals as well.

they don't need security clearance to "... express their unclassified views on what they see as critical national security issues without fear of being punished for doing so."

The Obama administration has ordered a government-wide reassessment of how almost 5 million Americans have been granted classified information security clearances and whether each person currently approved to see sensitive national security secrets truly has a need for such access.

Reeling from National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden’s leaks of top-secret surveillance programs and mentally computer contractor Aaron Alexis’s deadly shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard, the intelligence community is coming to the conclusion that the sheer number of personnel with clearances is making the government and the country as a whole vulnerable to a slew of dangers.

In a directive obtained by POLITICO, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper questioned the booming rolls of security-clearance holders. At last count, more than 4.9 million people held clearances, of whom over 1.4 million were cleared for access at the “Top Secret” level.

Looks like at least 60 Anti-Trump, anti-democracy traitors are trying to cover their asses.  Period.

This statement right here gives all the authority necessary to revoke everyone of their clearances.

"All of us believe it is critical to protect classified information from unauthorized disclosure," reads the statement from the former CIA officials. "But we believe equally strongly that former government officials have the right to express their unclassified views on what they see as critical national security issues without fear of being punished for doing so."

What a bunch of fucking idiots.

   Brennan endorsed the enhanced interrogation program (of which I agreed and still agree with) and now the left is defending him......Again.    All because he worked for Obama.   Priceless.

The IC not unlike the LE community protect their own to a point of fault.

Nope this will be out of the news in a few days.   Racism will be the focus on the midterms.   Has been for many elections now.

Oh good!  Hopefully all the self hating whities can find a statue or two to tear down.

When Obama was elected, my old man said he was going to set race relations back 30-40 years.  I disagreed and argued my point.  I hate it when he's right, I never get to hear the end of it.

Its my most hated feature of the left.   Its one thing to cry about the wealthy paying a fair share, or higher MW, or UHC because you can debate that with facts and figures.   When they falsely claim someone is a racist, or misogynist or homophobic debating them just brings you down to their level.  Even with zero proof there is very little you can do in that debate not unlike the meetoo movement it just makes you look like your not empathetic.   Reality is its the perfect way to attack someone until the masses see it for what it is.   Political attacks with no justification and I see trends of that happening including in the AA community.   The elections of 2016 are proof.

Well, clearly it worked for them in 2012.  If they can just silence the naysayers...they can roll full steam ahead into liberal socialistic oblivion.  Took another year or two but, Americans had enough of the BS.

Funny thing is, the left still can't see their massive mistakes and still think their referendum of hate, racism and intollerance will work.  EVEN AFTER TRUMP SQUASHED THEM.  I literally just shake my head....I try not to smile, but...can't help it sometimes.  :)

I say fuck all of those guys too. Pull their shit right now. It wouldn't worry me one bit if they eliminated that agency completely.

Oh...I think a nice message needs to be sent to the IC and DoJ departments.  Start jerking them like a bad engine on a lawnmower.  Fire Sessions unless he starts ringing up indictments to the previous criminals.  Matter of fact, fire him anyway and get somebody worth half a fuck in there.

Even left leaning polls are showing AA approval rating of Trump above 30% now.   Trust me this scares the shit out of the left.   Between now and midterms it will be full scale war to make sure they hold that voting block and with the economy and minority unemployment where it is they have no other topic but hate.

They are gonna make sure those negroes get back the fuck in line!!!!!!

I think they've had about enough of being used as a shim in all this shit...with nothing to show for it.  Obama really fucked them over good...most know it.  His policies show almost zero benefit to the AA community.  You can't spend "feel good".

These rallies are just idiot conventions. Trump would be wise to denounce all of them.
