Yamaha knows more about precision engine building then Polaris and Ski-Doo will ever dream of, especially their 4 strokes. Yamaha's knows more about precision 4-stroke design then Polaris and Ski-Doo will learn in my lifetime. Doe's ETEC is an average engine with average performance and average reliability. The Zuke HO is a more reliable engine, it came out 14 years ago. The 998 is so ahead of its time, its still the benchmark 7 years later in snowmobiling. People are running 250-350 HP tunes for 10-15K miles, and the sleds still run fucking perfect. PERFECT. And they still pull 10K+ pricing. Ski-Doo and Polaris are average engine builders. Their best effort is a laggy 190HP, maybe 205 with a Hurricane setup. It took Polaris and Ski-Doo 5-6 years to just catch up to the 800 reliability and performance of the 2010 160HP Zuke 800 H.O. Bye bye Mach Z. Ohh you gonna bitch the Doo can't run 250HP? Stock for modded? It wouldn't matter cause its a much inferior engine and the Doo engine can't get anywhere near the fucking power the 998 is capable of. SHAT. THE. FOCK. UP. and just be happy Cat didn't ask Yamaha or Suzuki to build them a 850cc-950cc two-stroke turbo capable engine, cause their 1st attempt would be better then Doo's 5th attempt. Lol you brand loyal supercunts trying to talk up a Doo engine. Bitch please. Edited February 16, 2023 by stinkipinki

J. Jackson
Nobody will argue that Yamaha builds a great engine but Rotax is world class as well. They're used in karts, off-road vehicles, sleds, boats and most importantly as far as reliability goes, aircraft.

The engine is not world class. Its still not on par with engine tech Yamaha had several years ago. If Doo's engines are so advanced, they haven't shown it in the real world, the 850 etec is average and their 900 4-stroke turbo would be impressive...if it released in 2007. Fucking idiot a stout crankcase, connecting rods and head studs for mod potential appeals to less than 5% of the sledding population. Stock it’s a pleasant slightly anemic and boring motor. 900 turbo is way funnier and faster in stock form. The Yamaha 998 has got them both beat in hp and mod potential. 50 minutes ago, stinkipinki said: So advanced Google burning Arctic Cats.
