Huh?  Where have you been.

Granted if they can't detect a power outage, then they are useless.

I knew they would fuck with it if it was easy to fuck with. If they have to go there and walk around back and manually change it , they will leave it alone.

Wife hasn't touched the Nest in two years or the Honeywell in a decade.  All good.:bc:

Totally agree. It's amazing how people get sucked into all that shit just because it's something new and techy. Fuck that exactly.

Smart stats are pretty handy when you aren't home to respond to a heating system issue during winter.

Yesterday morning about 6am my Ecobee smart stat sent me a text. It read: “System Alert. Check your boiler, your main floor has been calling for heat for 1 hour with no rise in room temperature”

I head to the boiler room and sure enough the plc is in fault. It wont advance past the “pressure switch” step and the combustion blower motor is barely spinning.  I had a spare blower motor on hand. Swapped it out and the old Weil McClain fired right up and began heating the house again.

The ecobee smart stats are pretty incredible with dozens of cool useful features.  They work just fine when the wifi is out. They monitor local weather and can be set up with several useful alarms and alerts to notify you when something is not right.

I had Honeywell smart stats before these but was never happy with them. I replaced all 4 of my honeywell smart stats with these ecobees a little more than 3 years ago. Not a single tstat related system problem in that time. Ive been notified of system problems several times since i installed them.

We are away from home 6 months out of the year. I couldn't feel comfortable being away from home that much without all the features of my smart home.

The guy that owned the house before had the programmable stats put in and we took them all out and installed manual dial ones. The house has in floor heat and the idiot had set them to shut down and start up at different times. We set the dial and leave it and the system does it's  thing

There are smart stats for I floor heating that use a floor sensor and cascade the control to heat the floor to a set temp and then the room.  Your standard nest/ Honeywell doesn't incorporate the floor sensor so they can only operate wide open.

This. I can get those stats for free. I use a basic digital. Set it and forget it. We set ours at 68deg and leave it.

66 and 70 ftw

My only wifi appliance is my thermostat and I use it occasionally.

We are gone a lot.... daughter is home having a party on the deck and I can turn of the AC off from Tennessee 😁

Thanks Tom. :bc: I'm beyond excited about this to say the least. I told him this is a golden opportunity for him and he is now in control of his future and he is very lucky. I don't think he realizes yet how huge this is for him. He's starting him out at $14 and is paying for all if his schooling and tools.

The good thing about that field is in a few years of working for someone he can open his own shop. I have several buddies in the field who live pretty damm well. Good for him congratulations

Could be possible that the demand exceeds the boiler capacity in real cold conditions. Time will tell !!

We"ve been here 5.5 years and got rid of the big hot water tank that was being used and installed the boiler. The water tank wasn't efficient on propane and we've drastically reduced our consumption. We have four zones on the control box and rarely all four are on at the same time and the boiler keeps up quite well. We have a separate 40gal hot water tank on a timer that does the trick

I had the top of the line Lennox put in last year to replace a 27 year old furnace that had no issues. The fancy 500 dollar thermostat crapped out this fall, and now I am left wondering why I bought a high tech computer controlled furnace. The old one was only 6% less efficient and worked fine.

wait til you replace the blower motor...…………………………..

Are you seeing Daikin's failing already? I was torn between a Trane and a Daikin but took the latter based on 2 more yrs of warranty.

Our new Daikin thermo has been less than stellar as well. It has a 1 degree temp differential where most have a 1/2 or none at all. Numerous complaints to service men have gotten us nowhere but that is partly my fault for not pushing the issue.

Touch wood, but so far our Daikin furnace and A/C units have been working great for 3+ years now.

Daikin is Goodman. Goodman is crap.

All under warranty for 12 years, parts and labour. We will most likely be moved again by that time.

Over 30 million dollars a year for GM. Add in the carbon tax, red tape, and a whole host of others costs, and people wonder why they're leaving? If I didn't know any better, I'd say the liberals are purposely trying to push businesses out of Ontario and the rest of Canada.:wall:

How much has that increased since Ford took over? How much of the increase was the carbon tax?

Hopefully he doesn't have to spend 60 seconds each morning teaching the new temps what to do.
