What I'm getting at is if you are a parent with an 8 year old that wants to race and you watch people roll into a 286 race with $200k+ invested in the truck ,trailer, and sleds; that really makes one think twice about wanting to be a part of that sport.

Ever wonder how something like a hair scramble draws like 150 riders in 1 class?  Because no one there has that shit.  The mental barrier to entry stops at "how do I get my 20 year old dirt bike to the track?  I know, the roof of my $1000 Outback!"

I come from hair scrambles and enduros and I've never understood why snowmobile racing has to be so complicated and expensive.  Then yeah you see the pits and all the money, it's no wonder it's a tiny sport.  There is no real grassroots.  Big money, tons of people standing around, for what looks to be a novice level of effort.  It's weird.

I shouldn't say that, there is that central MN pond racing and a hill climb series and those look pretty cool.  But nothing like that for xc or sx

All I'm saying is there is a lot of cost that doesn't need to exist below the pro/semi-pro classes.

How to you regulate that?

The series can't.  That is up to the teams/racers.

to be competitive in the national tour... there's just going to be costs.  no one is stopping anyone from showing up with a 2018 sled in the bed of their pickup.   can't swing the expense without sponsorships?   race the regional stuff where people show up with a two year old sled on a Triton, the back of a van, pickup or U-haul... not kidding on the U-Haul and beat everyone in that series... to get some sponsors.

same shit happens at drag strips, roundy-round tracks, with bikes or most motorsports.  good friend of mine used to build $50K race Hemi's for guys just to blow them up at the dragstrip on a bi-weekly basis.   costs exist...

this all said and as much as people bitch about the loss of mod sleds being gone from SX, I agree with it... to keep costs down.   apparently that's still not enough to 'save' the sport or make it more 'fair'.

i can't fix something i didn't actually break... :dunno:

jump to the 13:00 mark here...

maybe our problem is an American problem, as I don't see a single big-rig in the lot?

While that is true, something like drag racing is nationwide and doesn't have 14 pros in their premier class, or classes, I should say.

CFMoto eh?

@ZR6000RR, what's your insider say?

He's going to stroke out if cf moto buys them.   He's bashed cf constantly and rumor is many ex polaris employees now work for them as well as they are right down the road from poo hq

The future of Arctic Cat, being rebranded, Chinese made, piece of  garbage snowmobiles. The only thing CFMoto would want from Cat is the name. It’ll be hilarious to see Cat become the discount, poverty brand of snowmobiles. :lol2: No longer sold in proper dealerships but at big box stores next to the lawn mowers in the garden center.

"The old Arctic Enterprises under Lowell Swenson was growing out of control, they sold 100,000 sleds for the 1972 model year, just unheard of today. I know because I was one of those 100,000, buying a new Puma for about $995. Trouble began when he began buying too many companies. If you are old enough to remember, they bought a boat company, I believe it was Silverline, then built those hideous pink lawn mowers, which are very collectible today, they had a bicycle line, mini bike line and just figured acquiring Scorpion would make them that much more powerful and keep abreast of Polaris, which I believe was owned by Textron Industries at the time. Arctic also built one of the first personal water craft vehicles. There is nothing wrong with diversifying your business, but Arctic grew too fast and then the gas crunch came and several years of no snow, like 2012, huh, and a recession and it was just more than they could handle. We all know they went bankrupt, but fortunately a small group of dedicated people brought it back from the dead in 1983."

does Catextron still own the rights to Scorpion?  maybe CF Moto can make and sell those dirt cheap.  :snack:
