Did any of last year's Pro Lite riders go Pro this year?  Lorenz and Mandryk both aren't racing this year.

My 4 stroke is quieter, smoother, better on gas and faster than your imaginary fruit mobile.

:omg:You bought a sled because of noise, gas MPG and smoothness.:lol2:

Did the salesman throw in coupon to Bed, Bath and Beyond?

What a total fucking candy ass! I’m sure you checked the option box for a heated seat as well.  Wouldn’t want your vagina getting cold while you putt putt around on flat, groomed trails looking for antique stores.

It seems like there just isn't the sponsorship to run many of these pro teams unless they are at the top.  Benham is a top 10 pro rider and he's on the sidelines with no ride this year.

With Cat out of the picture, the other two manufacturers aren't going to magically increase their budgets overnight.

month ago or so I drove past the Polaris race shop.... Levi and Judnick had the only big rigs there.  at that time of the year there used to be a half dozen semi's outside the shop.  Hentges pulling the plug for 'whatever reasons'... surprised me a bit tbh.

did you listen to the Carbide podcast they were discussing this is in?  shined a light on why some stay PL and it has to do with winning $ and what sounds like manufacturer control to dominate multiple classes.

no, Lebel was the last I believe... or maybe Daudt?

Dillon will likely be the next

It'll spank your make believe sled and get better gas mileage. Win/ win

Actually this 900r has much louder exhaust than my 900. That thing was quiet.

I bet your make believe sled is quiet.

Cottew Motorsports just picked up Benham to replace Kern.  Figured Benham would land somewhere eventually.

OTB :lolz::lmafoe:  Yeah it will buddy, did the salesman tell you that too? Let me guess, you hang out at the lake all day long hoping no Sidewinders, Boosts or Doo 850 Turbo’s show up. You don’t dare ride any type of bumpy or twisty trail on your heavy ass tank as that actually takes skill and physical effort.

Trying to flex about MPG and how quiet your exhaust is. :lol:What’s next? You going to try bragging that your seat is extra soft so as not to chaff your vag? You love the location of the 12 volt plug so the cord to your heated visor doesn’t rub on your beer belly? Did you get a matching modular fucking helmet so you don’t have to take it off while stuffing your fat face with food every time you stop?:lol2:

Heath Bell

With the complete lack of interest in practices and the amount of money and work it takes to have on a good day 12 people enter its not and hasn't been worth it for years. And the lack of entries on usual race days is also a large loss. I've lost tens of thousands with zero sponsors. Without someone stepping up to help out with sponsors, labor etc, I can't keep doing it myself. Funded by just me. I do not have the time with the other business to chase down sponsors. So that's where we stand. Probably have a few fun races and that's it. Unless there is some help.

I actually ride mine, no bar hopping or igloo hopping, drinking -40c washer fluid.

Driving a loud ass look a me sled 300kms a day is not fun.

Quiet, fast and REAL 😲

Yes, old wrist injury flared up bad for him at Ironwood.

No you haven’t. You haven’t ridden your sled once this year. You just posted in the Cataylist thread you hadn’t ridden. :lol2::owned:

Maybe you'd make sense if I was on the washer fluid. 🤷

My unpopular opinion is you won't see the sport grow in any meaningful way until you drive the cost down, or the perception of the barrier to entry down.

How do we achieve this?

I'm not really sure, but if I had to throw something out there right now, the manufacturers should stop handing out a half dozen sleds to some of the riders on the bigger teams.

I listened to a whole Carbide Podcast where they lamented about the lack of sleds available to racers.  I was posting links to the latest greatest Polaris SX sleds for sale for their contingency payments.

Maybe some of these big name racers can fucking suck it up and use 3 race sleds for the year instead of 6.  And the sport lite racers can do it on 1 new one and 1 year old one.

Formula 1 limits the number of components like engines and gearboxes.  Maybe they could do something similar with chassis and engines?  Not sure how they would enforce that though.

what do you think the parents of an average middle of the pack Stock 200 class kid spends for a weekend or season so their kid can ride around the track?   sled, gear, truck, trailer, gas, hotel, food, etc., etc. adds up quickly.   what's it cost to run a season of Sport class?   if you (or your parents) can't afford it... then don't.   maybe they should ban semi's from the pits except for the factory support rigs and make everyone race out of a clamshell?   :lmao:

lot of forms of racing are suffering these days for a multitude of reasons... and, what's the old saying about making a million in racing by spending five?

speaking of 200's... when 'Cat' stops making those, then what?

  • Gold Donating Member

from racing sport class with a pos pickup and clapped out trailer racing on a budget....

to the big rigs...

to out of racing and back to wrenching in Sport Class... (start @ 15:45)

but, I enjoyed watching their ride...

And it all comes down to money.

We figured every night racing in the modified is $1000 a night right now.

Many tracks pay $600-800 to win in the midwest.

The math doesn't math.

That doesn't include the cost of the hauler.

To answer your first question, excluding the cost of the truck and trailer, I wouldn't be surprised if it cost as much to race a 200 or 206 as it does to race Sport class in COR, around $1500 a weekend for 2 classes (Sport/Sport Imp.) and 2 days of racing.  Fuel, parts, 2 nights in 1 hotel room, gear, etc.

And that is if you aren't tearing shit up.

how many parents are willing, can afford it and/or more importantly actually capable of doing it?    not everyone is going to end up in the semi.... and that should be ok.

What I'm getting at is if you are a parent with an 8 year old that wants to race and you watch people roll into a 286 race with $200k+ invested in the truck ,trailer, and sleds; that really makes one think twice about wanting to be a part of that sport.

Ever wonder how something like a hair scramble draws like 150 riders in 1 class?  Because no one there has that shit.  The mental barrier to entry stops at "how do I get my 20 year old dirt bike to the track?  I know, the roof of my $1000 Outback!"

  right...

maybe they should be looking at the ProAm 30+ SX guys instead, or the Arlaud's when they were racing off an open deck trailer?

i think we're actually agreeing more than disagreeing here... :)

All I'm saying is there is a lot of cost that doesn't need to exist below the pro/semi-pro classes.

How to you regulate that?

The series can't.  That is up to the teams/racers.
