Anler
New York times article... American officials fear... Can you believe this shit? American officials say they fear that Ukraine has become casualty averse, one reason it has been cautious about pressing ahead with the counteroffensive. Almost any big push against dug-in Russian defenders protected by minefields would result in huge numbers of losses.

mnstang
Everybody should be casualty averse. Unless you're pro war like the establishment aka "American officials".

akvanden
We can give them all the weapons they ask for, but it’s up to them if they want to continue fighting or let Russia steal their land. At some point, they may have no choice. Awful statistics also mentioned in the article. “Russia’s military casualties, the officials said, are approaching 300,000. The number includes as many as 120,000 deaths and 170,000 to 180,000 injured troops. The Russian numbers dwarf the Ukrainian figures, which the officials put at close to 70,000 killed and 100,000 to 120,000 wounded. But Russians outnumber Ukrainians on the battlefield almost three to one, and Russia has a larger population from which to replenish its ranks.”

They are not part of NATO, despite what they were promised in the 90's while giving up the nukes. It's why they'll pry my gun from my cold dead hands. Promises don't mean shit. Hard to believe anyone when other groups have Russian deaths less than 20K. Keep in mind Russia has 2.5x's more people than Ukraine and who knows how many military age men fled. True, there is far fewer of them, but that’s what the Canadian Armed Forces lives on. We could barely muster more trained infantry than Toronto has police officers. Well trained. Been through it. Under 10,000. Better hope, like in a movie, 1 of us can kill 20 of them. I keep a well stocked armoury, just in case…. Voodoo
Russia and China push into our Northern Border. That border is still in flux. I prefer to push back on Russia and China, now, before they move in on what has traditionally been Canadian territory. Our US allies are in agreement. Carlos Danger
I like the current idea the Ukrainians have which is pound on the supply chain until it forces the Russians to with draw. If the Ukraine forces can push in a fairly wide breach head the south about 50miles between now and Christmas I think the Russians will be forced to fold on Crimea. I think the Russians can make the gains in the donbas stick just because it is easier to supply and would be to costly for the Ukraine to recapture. If they can drive to mariapol it will be the collapse of Russia as a super power.
