Easy access to government loans drove up the price of tuition to a point where you are mortgaging the productive years of the youth to indentured servitude. Rates for the direct loans for undergraduates are 5.5% and 7.05% for graduate students, plus a 1% origination fee. There is a limit on those direct subsidized and unsubsidized loans so many will turn to the parent plus loans at 8.05% with a 4% origination fee.
