Romney was the Republicans option for holding power, Trump, while an entertaining doofus of a president nearly gar-on-teed a democratic turnover.  Now Democrats are close to the same game with Biden, as they were unable to come to the center for any reasonable candidate.

Kasich would also have been a reasonable option for Republicans to hold power.  The Trump debacle really hurt them in the long run, as I see it.

Had Romney not made the 47% remark and not been the lap dog in the last debate history might be different.
