Are speeding tickets too cheap?

Do we have so much money in this country that the consequences for driving 15mph or more over the posted speed limit doesn't even cross our minds?

Sigh

But wait, there's more.

I believe driving is a skill just like skiing, soccer or snowmobiling...we should have color coded license plates which represent skill level. Some people are a danger to themselves and others at our ridiculous speed limits. While others can easily manage 10-15-25 above. We should test for skill and license accordingly.

Many folks can drive 20 over and be fine. Others struggle with the speed limit.

Many can, but are breaking the law.   I'm no saint but as a state trooper told me years ago... Anything more than 7mph and that's when the rollers get turned on, same goes for a friend who's a county cop.

But that's not the point of the article, it's about a genuine grade A asshole.

Around here it's at least 10 over. Even then if ya dont brake the golden rule you will be ok.

Min 10 over here is when you get pulled over, unless a s hool zone or ‘downtown.’ We are rural routes so only one or two go thru a town. Downtown can consist of one convenience store. :)

If you are from out of state, well, good luck too you.

I have near 50 warnings (no lie, i should get a world record, no? drives my wife insane - another warning ? You suck !” without a ticket, but i drive a pickup, barely go 10 over (mostly 45’s and 55’s here - hwy is 70)  have in state plates, and live and work locally, which i bring up to a cop in conversation of course.

I keep forgetting we live in a society with all these 'suggestion' signs.  Maybe I'll blow through a few stop sign suggestions later this evening.

Also, when did using your f'ng turn signal become an option?

Here's another dandy...

Maybe it's just my perspective but I believe people are becoming bigger assholes day by day in the USA.

I feel it’s more a age thing whether you get let go or a ticket. When I was younger 16-23ish I was constantly pulled over and givin every ticket you can think of lost my license multiple times. Now that I’m older they just seem to say slow it down have a nice day can’t even remember the last time I actually got a ticket been years.

The hight of the pandemic were hands down the best driving days of my life . I truly miss only risk takers on the road . Rolling 85+ and getting passed by trains of cars and having to put down the phone and step up the game .

My Ford saves me from the trippel digit license suspending tix but the dodge dose not have a limited top speed so I find my self  past 100 at least 1 time a mo and have to reel her back .

Late night on the way north I regularly have the escort set as sensitive as it gets and roll 90+ for about 40 min straight

OK  up here in Ontario if you get caught doing 50% over the speed limit you're fucked. So in miles per hour our limit here is 55,you get caught at 83 and it's stunt driving/racing. License pulled immediately for 7-30 days,,vehicle impounded for 14 days and min. $2000 fine up to $10,000. Kid in southern Ont last week rented a Lambo and got caught going 75mph in a 37mph zone,,,cost him $18000 in rental fees after the 14 day impounding

I regularly drive 80-90 on the highway, knock on wood, I seem to have a good sense as to where I can get away with it and where I can't.  Thank god for Waze.  Then again, in 05 I had a new GTO and got clocked at over 110 mph, and that was hard on the brakes after about 145, when i saw him up ahead.  Shit happens really fast at those speeds.  5 court appearances, 100 hours community service and a couple grand in lawyer bills.  Fuck that shit.  Thank god I was friends with the local fire marshall and he owed me a favor, so got about 50 hours Hilary Clintoned.

It was recently changed from 50 over to 40 over in a less than 80 zone for stunt driving in Southern Ontario. Anything 80 and above, it still remains at 50 over for stunt driving.

TORONTO -- Ontario has made changes to how fast a driver can go over the speed limit on some roads before it will be considered stunt driving. ... As of Thursday, anyone caught driving 40 km/h or more above the speed limit where the maximum is less than 80 km/h will face stunt driving charges.Jul. 1, 2021

In Virginia anything over 80mph is reckless driving even if the speed limit is 70. Bull shit law that I found out about the hard way.

That's crazy. Not a chance I could get use to that. What's the charges/fines for reckless?

I got a must appear ticket. I hired a lawyer that went for me. I think the lawyer and fine was 800 bucks he got it dropped down to speeding.
