The cancer risks associated with smoking don't stop at your lungs. Smoking can also cause cancers of the mouth, nose, sinus, voice box, esophagus, liver, pancreas, stomach, kidney, ovary, bladder, colon, and cervix, as well as some forms of leukemia. .

Change of tobacco products came during the “70’s when the tobacco in Marlboros was ammoniated. It moved the nicotine molecules into a freebase solution that more accurately targeted the nicotonic acetylcholine receptor. That change increased the drug seeking potential several times over.

I couldn’t smoke even if I wanted to. Cannot stand it

Same here, I got very nauseated even getting a whiff. I would Puke if I ever tried it, my mom would smoke in the car when I was a youngster and I would throw up out the window.

I was a hardcore smoker all my life......2 packs a day. Tried quitting many, many times, never could. 2 years ago I had my stroke, doc said quit smoking and live or keep smoking and die.....quit cold turkey, minimal if any withdrawal symptoms, haven't had a desire to smoke since....It is totally in your mind.....2 Family members died from cancer, 2 survivors, including my wife......up here in Nookland, I'm saving about $30+/day...

US man writes his own obituary to warn others against smoking

A 66-year-old man in New York state took it upon himself to write his own obituary as a cautionary tale warning others against smoking.

Geoffrey Turner died of lung cancer on 13 February after decades of smoking.

"I was an idiot who made the same stupid decision, day-after-day," Mr Turner wrote. "If you're a smoker - quit - now - your life depends on it."

His daughter, Sarah, told the BBC she was extremely proud of her father's last "selfless" act.

"I was a smoker and even though I knew it may eventually kill me, I chose to deny the truth to myself," Mr Turner's obituary in the Albany Times Union reads.

Mr Turner was diagnosed in November with stage four lung cancer that his doctor said was a direct result of his years of smoking.

"The pain and suffering I caused my family was not worth the perceived 'satisfaction' that really did nothing more than waste money, separate me from my family, and eventually destroyed my body.

"I lived a decent life, but there are so many events and milestones I will not be able to share with my loved ones," he wrote. "The moral of this story - don't be an idiot.

"Remember, life is good - don't let it go up in smoke."

Daughter Sarah Huiest told the BBC she was shocked when her father showed her the obituary.

"I told him that it was incredibly self-deprecating," Mrs Huiest says. "He shrugged his shoulders and said, 'it's all true'."

The response to the honest obituary has been very positive, according to his daughter.

"Friends and strangers have reached out to me to say how his words were what they wished they had heard from their own loved one," Mrs Huiest says.

She told the BBC her grandmother first caught Mr Turner smoking cigarettes when he was just two-years-old - and her father himself remembered picking up the habit at age four.

Mr Turner initially stopped smoking after marrying Mrs Huiest's mother, but once he picked it up again in the mid-90s during a business trip to London, he did not quit until his cancer diagnosis last year.

But he never smoked in front of his children, his daughter says.

"All while we grew up in the 80s and early 90s, he would speak out against smoking and urge us to never start."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US say that cigarette smoking is the top cause of preventable disease and death in the country, with around half a million people dying from smoking-related conditions each year.

Mrs Huiest describes her father's obituary as "by far the most significant thing he did in his life".

"He always wanted 'to do something big.' I am extremely proud of the selfless act of this obituary. This is what he will be most widely known for and it is a great thing."

Mr Turner is survived by his wife, five children and four grandchildren.

I had terrible headaches and puking the first week. After that it was pretty easy.

Everyone quits eventually.  Don’t wait until it is because your dying.  Wife’s aunt is stage 5 .in hospice waiting to die.

I know everyone laughs and makes fun of vapes,  but if you are still smoking get the Juul.  I know a few people who thought they would never be able to quit, did it with the Juul .   Better to be laughed at than dead.

I smoked cigarettes for twenty years and quit 25 years ago and it was the best move I ever made. I enjoy a good cigar but never inhale them. I did one time but coughed so hard I saw Jesus.

You should have kept smoking.  You wouldn’t have to deal with your TDS issues.

I like to give Vapers a hard time but I encourage all smokers to try vaping. It makes it easier to quit, no doubt. It helped me and several other people I know.

Hey MC, I am smoking a Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Nicaragua tonight. Pretty damn good and smooth. I usually like something a little more “full” but this cigar is really good.

Me and my Uncle each had a Cuban the other night that about knocked me on my ass.

My FIL is in the hospital right now, smoked for 45 years before quiting when he turn 59 , his 85th birthday is today. When phoning him tonight in hospital he says wish he had never started smoking at 14, he might be able to breath right now. I tried it when I was much younger but never really like the taste of it, glad I didn't.

The Romeo is s nice smooth cigar, but the Cubans still make the best cigars in my opinion. Smoking a man o war Armageddon right now....real strong. Cigars are relaxing I find.

sorry didn’t want to hijack XCR’s thread

Never smoked.

Me neither, not even one puff off of one cig.  For whatever reason the kids I hung with in High school and college didn't smoke.  My parents didn't smoke.  My dads parents didn't smoke but my moms parents both smoked well into their 80's.  I will never forget my gramma was about 85 and she tells the family that she has decided to quit smoking.  Everyone was like, why quit now.  She passed away at 93.  Had dementia and alzheimers.

I will puff on a swisher sweet or backwoods honeyberry once or twice a month at most.
