Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who is near the top of presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s vice-presidential shortlist, is reserving air time for his reelection bid in August.

A media-buying source said Pence has reserved airtime from Aug. 1 through Aug. 14, the two weeks immediately following the Republican and Democratic national conventions. The Pence campaign declined to comment on specifics, but confirmed they placed reservations for an upcoming buy.

Pence is facing Democrat John Gregg in a rematch of their 2012 race. He has until noon on Friday to withdraw from the gubernatorial contest and join the presidential ticket. Trump’s campaign has said the vice-presidential announcement would come Friday morning in New York.

The ad buy doesn’t mean Pence is eliminating himself from the vice-presidential discussion. His campaign’s last ad buy began in May, and it has not been on the air this month.

Since the ads aren’t set to begin running until after the conventions, Pence’s campaign could easily take down the ad buy if he’s tapped by Trump — and those slots could be filled by his replacement gubernatorial candidate or the Republican Governors Association.

Trump is also considering former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions for the No. 2 spot on the ticket. Pence, a staunch social conservative, could help him win over evangelical voters skeptical of his changing positions on abortion rights and history of bragging about his sexual exploits.
