If the government wants to push progress in the realm of some alternative power source other than gasoline they should grant research money to come up with a logical alternative. Until batteries can either recharge to 80% in 10min or can go 800mi+ on a charge eV's are not viable for the majority. The stupidity of what is being pushed is just making us fast followers and not developing cutting edge tech that could be the game changer that is needed.
