The desalination process has come light years in terms or energy usage, but when many jurisdictions are maxed out and above on the electricity outputs, ( somewhat thanks to a push to wind and solar) and to build the plants not in the budget, hundreds of megawatts to desalinate and tens of billions in start up costs are not an option. Add on the desire to electrify the vehicle space, heat pumps instead of natural gas and that energy simply isn’t there.
