I swear educators are some of the most despicable people in the country.

Parents of an eighth-grade autistic girl are suing a Michigan public school district for referring to her using masculine pronouns and a male name without their knowledge or consent.

On Monday, Dan and Jennifer Mead filed a lawsuit against the Rockford Public School District after they discovered that the school had been using “he/him” pronouns for their daughter.

The lawsuit alleges that the school violates the parent’s 1st and 14th Amendment rights.

The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) filed the lawsuit on behalf of the parents, claiming that for at least two months, staff members at East Rockford Middle School called their daughter a male name and used masculine pronouns.

The parents learned that this was happening back in October 2022, when a school counselor accidentally wrote the child’s “masculine name” in one section of a report that was later mailed home. The lawsuit claimed that throughout the remainder of the document, the eighth-grader’s feminine name assigned at birth was used instead.

“At first, the Meads thought this was a mistake — that another child’s information had been included in their daughter’s documents,” said the ADF in a statement. “When the Meads asked district employees to refrain from using the masculine name and male pronouns, the district refused to comply with their wishes.”

The student, who first started speaking with the school counselor at East Rockford Middle School in 2020, was also recently given an autism diagnosis.

The Meads had maintained regular communication with the district staff and “placed significant trust in the counselor as well as other employees” the last two years.

Nevertheless, the complaint claims that the school withheld important information from the parents and that the child only wanted to be referred to as a boy with a male name and masculine pronouns right after her sessions with the school counselor began.

According to the Washington Times, the Meads claim that homeschooling has resulted in the couple losing income and are requesting an undisclosed sum in compensatory damages.

Good on the parents.

And the rest of the story

But we're talking specifically about a school using a child's pronouns and chosen name in the school while they're in school. And that is 100%, the right thing to do. Several years ago, the state of Michigan's Board of Ed handed down a set of guidances to all Michigan schools. It isn't law, but they provided every district with these guidances and said, Here are answers to all of your questions regarding gender, and names and pronouns and bathrooms," she said.

"And in there, you'll find that they recommend that schools honor a child's request. And that's the way to raise a healthy happy child."

Jay Kaplan, a staff attorney for the ACLU of Michigan's LGBTQ+ Project, shares some context of why a school might not share certain things with parents.

He says children, even minors do have rights to privacy, and courts in the past have recognized that right to privacy when it comes to disclosing their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

"I mean, I think the law is pretty clear. Certainly, courts have recognized the right of parental autonomy, but that's not absolute. There are certain situations where the government, the interest, the compelling interest, and looking out for the safety and welfare of a child, that takes precedence over a situation like that. Our courts have recognized situations where disclosure of a child's sexual orientation or their gender identity has caused harm to them," Kaplan said.

You’re dumb.

I suggest they hire Giuliani”s lawyer while the frivolous lawsuit are paying out large. Get a sympathy screwing.

The number of “ambulance chasers” you guys have, and the shit they sue for and win baffles me..

Maybe sue for a few sets of balls for the butt hurt family.

Dad at least needs them, maybe the kid too if being a girl doesn’t work out.

I’d wager the Great Gazoo and His Son are somehow behind this nonsense.as well.

Just an educated guess.

The inevitable result of leaving parents out.   The stakes for the child are far too high for the school to take the position of leaving the parents out.

The law says otherwise while they are at school.

As much as I think the parents are probably crockpots, the law isn’t always right.

The law talking people are gonna finally jail the Orange Devil though, so there is that…

Not the law - state bd of Ed guidance document - but that’s not the point.   It’s pretty hard to fully support any child without having the parents.  A student’s life doesn’t start at 8 and end at 3.

When at school it’s school rules and state law.  It’s clear and best practices.  Shouldn’t even be controversial:thumbsup:

That isn’t information the school should be hiding from the parents however the law says the wishes of the child are.  The parents rights to knowing the status of their child and education at a public institution isn’t overridden by the state.  They are rightfully suing and will obviously win, as they should.

That’s not what the law says.  It’s well explained in the post above and I agree.

There isn’t a law governing that it is school policy handed down by the BOE.

I agree with the state BOE policy.  Very reasonable.  Students have some individual autonomy while at school.   If a student asks a teacher to call them by him/he but the parents say call them by she/her…???  I’d expect the teacher to grant the students wishes while at school in most circumstances.  Parents don’t like - take their voucher and go to a private school

Spot on. The Public Screwl System needs to get back to teaching and stay out of the parenting business. It all started with that "it takes a village to raise a child....derp". Biggest load of horseshit ever.

Sure, but the policy shouldn’t bar the parents from knowing what is going on.  If they disagree with the school policy it should be dealt with like any other BOE policy contention.

The hiding of the name/pronouns is what is the problem here.

Who’s hiding what?  Do you expect the school to reach out and let you know the pronouns used for your son are him/he?  If the parents don’t know then there are much more complex issues to deal with than the shiny object in the OP.  Students do have some level of autonomy while at school and in their care.  There are issues counselors and therapists do not share with anyone - including the parents.

I’d expect the school to make me aware if my child was suffering from mental illness. No matter how much you faggot little pussy ass democrats want to fuck little kids it cannot change the fact that gender dysphoria is mental illness and needs to be treated as such.
