You should get a machine gun that isn't so frightening, maybe something with wood so it doesn't look so scary.

Daniel defense would be my choice from cabelas.

 

I do like my colt though.  Its been awesome.

LMT, Daniel Defense, Colt, Sig, DPS and Bushmaster are all ones I'm looking into currently. I know Colt, Sig and Bushmaster have good reputations but personally not sure on the others. They were suggested to me by close friends.

I've got three Bushmasters, all 90's Clinton Pre-ban. Two are still in the box and one is my personal weapon.   I was introduced to BM's when I got to chose my shit for contracting.  I found them to be superior and tougher than the Colt military issues.  Now, my personal one is a bit of everything all mil-spec but the lower receiver is all BM with a tad bit of trigger work and I don't know how many thousands of rounds I've put through it but it's been A LOT.  I'm a fan of BM but to be fair, I've been out of that business for a good while so not sure where they stack up now and I'm sure there are some other great brands now too.

Also, I'm a big fan of HK also.  Have several of their models (no AR's though).  It'd probably be a spendy option but I'd do an AR from them too.

I damn near walked out with a P2000 last time out at the gun show. Decent price and I've always wanted to try H&K but wanted something a bit smaller.

I have a Ruger SR556 and SR22. Really like them both. Excellent quality, accuracy is spot on. I have quite a few Ruger products and all have been very reliable, zero issues.

Smaller in Cal or gun size?  I have their Compact line.  A USP Compact and their .45 compact.  The .45 compact is a great gun.  It's like it was molded perfectly for my hand and fits like a perfect extension.  'Course, every hand is different and everybody likes a certain feel with a handgun.  So, gotta "try them on" to find one that fits.  I find most of the makers "compact lines" are better for tactical use.  If you do competition, the larger barrels are obviously better.

It was chambered in 9mm which didn't bother me too much although I really want to get a compact .45. That and the AR are next on my list. Carbine and a compact pistol

Windham Weaponry is to the firearms industry what Eric Cartman is to South Park. When Bushmaster was sold off to Freedom Group and the manufacturing plant moved out of town, the local gunsmiths cried in unison “screw you guys, we’re starting our own manufacturing company!” Using the skills and techniques learned from years on the Bushmaster assembly line, Windham Weaponry set to work producing AR-15 rifles targeted for the same market that their former corporate overlords were now dominating.

Magpul CTR stock is so far my favorite. Or get something like a cheap M&P 15 sport and customize that. I just cant imagine buying one off the shelf that you wouldn't want to change things on. Esp some of these guys charging $2500 for something i can build for 1k. forget that.

I spent a grand on mine, didn't change a thing, and love it just as it is.

Sure its just different strokes diff folks. I went for more of a specialized build and i found other non standard items that i liked more than what most companies were offering. Charging handle/grip/stock/forend . Spent good money on a bolt and the list goes on. 

You could say the exact same thing about the M&P15 sport or a $600 one they would work just fine for out of the box pull the trigger and go bang. I think mine is really nice and geared for what i do with it (long range)

Will be my first one, not familiar with them so building might be a little intersting. I figure after getting familiar with the weapon I could build my second one

Gun Shop Sells 30,000 AR-15s in Week Following Orlando Attack

It’s been a week since the terrorist attack on an Orlando nightclub that left 49 dead and 53 wounded. Since then, the sale of AR-15 rifles has soared in gun stores across the country, Fox Business reported.

Hunter’s Warehouse Owner Tom Engle told the FOX Business Network’s Stuart Varney Saturday that his online gun shop, which carries an inventory of 300,000 to 400,000 weapons, has sold 30,000 AR-15s since Sunday.

A Federal Firearms License (FFL) permits gun store owners to import firearms and ammunition across the United States. Even though each state has its own gun laws, Engle explained how it would be possible to buy an AR-15 online.

“You would have the firearm shipped to an FFL [agency] in your home state because every state is different and then we would ship that FFL firearms agency in your home state and they would be responsible to do the paperwork for you in your home state,” he said.

When Orlando Police Chief John Mina initially described the weapon used by shooter Omar Mateen as an “AR-15-style assault rifle,” media outlets ran with the classification. Several dropped “style” from the description.

It turns out, however, that the Islamic State-supporting killer was actually armed with a Sig Sauer MCX carbine during last Sunday’s attack. The semi-automatic AR-15, which is routinely confused as being a “machine gun” or fully automatic weapon, is one of the most popular rifles in the United States.

Engle noted that the price for AR-15s ranges from $350 to $8,000. But according to the gun shop owner, the recent spike in sales of AR-15s is not attributable to the desire to protect oneself from terrorists like Mateen. These sales, he said, stem from a different type of fear.

“Shootings don’t push up gun sales, he explained. “It’s when the government starts talking about banning particular guns and up go gun sales. When people lose their right to buy a particular gun or a particular type of gun, they go after them and they want them then.”

Something people need to remember when they are buying an "AR-15" is that it is a platform.  It can be configured in tons of different way and all parts under that platform are interchangeable.  Barrels, stocks, keys, carriers, bolts, pins, lower and upper receivers, etc....and all the goodies you want can be added or taken away or changed.  In other words, build your own personal Frankenstein to suit you.  Hell, I've lost track of all the different names of parts on mine.

A 600 dollar gun is pretty damn good. Who makes better quality, DPMS or Aero Precision?

Not sure but honestly if i blindfolded and gave you 2 guns 1 with a Anderson lower and 1 with a DPMS lower i dont see how you could tell the difference. They are very basic parts.

Some have better machining tolerances and better materials but they all do the same thing pretty well.

I wont name names but basically more $ = better materials and tolerances but i have had 2 ar's with Anderson lowers and they were great. Different grades of Alum used per price range. Some better than others. Same with bolts. Nickel boron = $ and is slick but a standard milspec bolt is also just fine.

Its like a nissan altima vs a lexus gx470. Both work just fine ones a lot more comfy and better in certain areas.

Any AR should be durable enough and tight enough to last a long time period.
