Pfizer, Moderna vaccines 90 percent effective in preventing coronavirus infections in U.S.

Pfizer, Moderna vaccines 90 percent effective in preventing coronavirus infections in U.S.

The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines being deployed to fight the coronavirus pandemic are robustly effective in preventing infections in real-life conditions, according to a federal study released Monday that provides reassurance of protection for front-line workers in the United States.

In a study of about 4,000 health-care personnel, police, firefighters and other essential workers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the vaccines reduced the risk of infection by 80 percent after one shot. Protection increased to 90 percent following the second dose. The findings are consistent with clinical trial results and studies showing strong effectiveness in Israel and the United Kingdom, and in initial studies of health-care workers at the University of Texas and in southern California.

The CDC report is significant, experts said, because it analyzed how well the vaccines worked among a diverse group of front-line working-age adults whose jobs make them more likely to be exposed to the virus and to spread it. The workers came from eight locations in six states — Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, Oregon, Texas and Utah. They received vaccinations between mid-December, when the doses first became available, to mid-March, a 13-week period that included the deadly winter surge that was killing more than 3,000 people a day by January.

The study is also one of the first to estimate vaccine effectiveness among participants against infection — rather than just monitoring for symptomatic cases — including infections that did not result in symptoms, according to the CDC. Among 2,479 fully vaccinated people, just three had confirmed infections. Among 477 people who received one dose, eight infections were reported. By comparison, among 994 people who were not vaccinated, 161 developed infections. No deaths were reported.

You don't get to choose what vaccine you get.  Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson and Johnson.  But lets all tell everyone how good Pfizer and Moderna are.  Another deceptive article.

I posted it as a public service announcement not a political or conspiracy theory.

J&J results are excellent too. I posted a video weeks ago regarding the J&J vaccine.

Having covid in the past is as, if not more, effective then the vaccines against acquiring covid.

I'm pretty sure we had it back over a year ago before it was known.

Currently the wife is home in isolation cause she worked near a staff who tested positive, tested negative last week and tested again yesterday and won't be able to go back til next week.  Her colleague who tested positive, tested negative a few days ago and is now clear to go back but is still sick as a dog with flu like symptoms.

Here in AZ you do.  They list which vaccine they're giving at which location.  My wife and I were both able to sign up and get Pfizer since that's the one we wanted.

Here in Wisconsin they say just that you just get what they have and you do not get to choose the vaccine.

So much for vaccines.

Is this the new Republican narrative even though they were claiming before that it was going to go away the day after the election?

Alot of confusion among people in this country.

It has zero percent effectiveness in preventing a coronavirus infection

Exactly! Not once have I heard or read where the vaccine actually works and protects you from getting it now or again. To me, it is like the flu shot. Pick a strain, inject and hope it works. A male nurse in Ontario had both shots in the allowed time yet tested positive for covid a couple weeks later and was told to isolate.

It’s not a magic shield that makes a virus bounce off you. It can just prepare your immune system before you contact a virus to keep it from developing into an illness.

does it stop you from getting the sars cov2 virus? No. Could it stop it from developing into the illness called Covid19? Possibly.

Isn't there a whole pile of them on the way after Trudeau, the Libs and his health "experts" saying it was perfectly safe?

Numerous European countries banned its use but our idiot in charge, who is just trying to pump his numbers up, said it was safe to use on the CDN public.

I wonder who it was that convinced him to rethink things?

The rate of occurrence of blood clots with the A-Z vaccine is not in any exceptional.  Sensationalized media doing its thing.
