Would people that primarily ride groomed trails buy a new sled that sits lower than most currently do?

One of the scariest "get offs" I almost had was on the other side of the bridge when I overshot the landing and lawn darted into the whoop hole just on the off ramp.  I swear I broke both my wrists.  SMH.

OUCH!  I jammed into the handlebars good once a couple years ago doing the same.

I typically don’t waste a trip to the UP anymore to trail ride. I do all of that in the lower which can be even more busy, depending on the place and amount of snow sometimes.

Funny part is I’ve been pretty lucky trail riding the lower the past couple of years. We either hit it mid week or early morning on a Saturday after a fresh groom. Even on a rail bed, like this one, that if you attempt to ride it during the weekend, it is endless chop.

I dont get why any one drives to da  UP to trail ride it is fucking awful 8 of 10 times . Worse part is you can sit in a ditch on the GG after running perfect trail all day and count 100 trucks and trailers in 20 min rolling thrugh with another 1 to 2.5 hrs ahead of then to ride shit

There is no new (stock) sled on the market today that can run with this old 50 hp sled in the woods.  That may hurt some feelings but it's true.  Sorry.

This is fact.  A quality rider can rail those fucking things in the twisties like no other.  New sleds aren't able to compete...until; the first whoop. Then, it's over.  BUT, I'd love to rail those old sit downers on the first groomed trail in the morning.  I mean, FLY BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Riding Friday night the trails were mint. I was behind a buddy with a lot of snow dust we were hammering pretty good through a field. Came over a knoll and holy shit was there a bomb hole on the other side of this fawkin thing. I had no clue the thing was there from the snow dust and I started down into it and thought I was on my way to China, must’ve been 10 feet from the top of the knoll to the bottom of the hole on the other side. Totally unexpected I fuckin whaled both my knees off the panels, thought for sure I horseshoed the bars, completely bottomed the sled out and came out of that thing about 3 feet off the ground and sideways. Asked my buddy about it and he says “yea knew it was there from last night that’s why I went outside the stake....” Up until that point I was like wow I’d love to be on a ZR right now. After that I don’t know if I’ll ever go for something low and fast again. 😂

The RR soaks up those unexpected obstacles.  There have been more than a few times I thought it was going to be a yard sale and it just took it in stride.  I did bottom once so hard I had to stop and make sure the skid was still in the sled.

I snowchecked a 21 RR put 120 miles on it and it got hit in the tunnel. So I have a 19 limited 600 to finish the season and give to my girlfriend in the spring. Not being able to see the hole an RR only would’ve helped so much.

If I could only have one sled it'd be the 500 snopro.  But this Jag rails the tight twisties way, way better.  It turns in effortlessly and it's like it's begging you to turn in more.  Even those real tight ones that are almost a 180 and kind of annoying on a bigger sled, this one eats it up and pivots right around so easily.  This sled is low and light and at some point physics win

Yup.... those Jags....especially the Jag Specials / Jag Zs were a blast.
I agree on the 500 SP.... I may have to start looking for a clean, stock, low mileage, non-teenager beaten to death unit this summer. Maybe that will be my "take a year off" sled.....LOL...

We have a regular hag as well since new.  I know that sled very well, the difference with the Z/special is significant with that extra ski stance and swaybar.

there was one in NY I pm'd the guy about, 400 miles, mint, $4K - which in a covid priced market was a steal.  I was going to have my brother in Rhode Island go pick it up and arrange to get it back here.  they're still out there... just have to be in the right place at the right time.

I wonder... often, for no particular reason.

Cat & Yammie did it recently with the T-Cat & SRX, years ago Doo had the Mach X and Plus X, I'm sure Polaris did something similar once upon a time in a production sled because they always copy something Doo & Cat does.

Setting up a new sled with 'rough ice' cross country racing specs just speaks to me... maybe because you're not riding an old ass dragger.  IDK...  maybe I just place a higher value on good cornering than mogul munching?

If I worked for Polaris and made decisions, I'd want to bring back a modern RXL in 650/850 variants that sits like this for the groomed crew.

My sled is dropped 2 inches, so yes, I'd definitely buy one that way.

which shocks are you running?

much better handling?

factory fox shocks, but revalved and resprung for my riding style.

and yes, substantially better handling on the big, fast trails. also, higher top speeds

looks good Tom and love the seat too, but your snowflap sure could use some attention.

which hood scoop did you decide on?  seem to recall the two of us pm'ing a few different styles back and forth last winter and I was pushing for the NACA duct

That sled eats flaps. I extended the track but not the tunnel, so sometimes the track gets hungry.

That's a prototype scoop for the intercooler. The one we were discussing was for th he 998s, but i ended up not doing it at all since that sled now runs a full carbon hood.

Bad ass seat.  Love it.  If our trails looked like yours I'd do the same.
