Introducing our Assistant Heath Secretary!

Enjoy fellas!  She moved her mom from a nursing home to a hotel before admitting Covid positive patients back into them, and fucked most PA businesses (restaurants mostly) out of existence.

Going to be a fun 4 years.

President-elect Joe Biden announced Tuesday that he will nominate Pennsylvania’s top health official, Rachel Levine, to be his assistant secretary of health. Levine, a pediatrician, would become the first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

“Dr. Rachel Levine will bring the steady leadership and essential expertise we need to get people through this pandemic — no matter their zip code, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability — and meet the public health needs of our country in this critical moment and beyond,” Biden said in a statement. “She is a historic and deeply qualified choice to help lead our administration’s health efforts.”

Levine serves as Pennsylvania’s secretary of health and has been leading the state’s public health response to the coronavirus pandemic. Biden’s transition team noted that Levine — appointed by Gov. Tom Wolf (D) in 2017 as acting health secretary — was confirmed three times by the Republican-controlled state Senate to serve as secretary of health and the state’s physician general.

At the time, she was one of only a handful of transgender officials serving in elected or appointed offices nationwide. If confirmed as assistant secretary of health, Levine would be the highest ranking transgender official in the US government.

“President-elect Biden said throughout his campaign that his administration would represent America," said Mara Keisling, the executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality. “Today, he made clear that transgender people are an important part of our country.”

Serving under Xavier Becerra, Biden’s nominee to head the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Levine would oversee key health offices and programs across the department, 10 regional health offices nationwide, the Office of the Surgeon General and the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

Last year, as Levine rose to prominence leading Pennsylvania’s pandemic response, she became the target of attacks on her gender identity.

One in particular made headlines and earned a scathing rebuke from the governor: A photo of a man sitting in a carnival dunk tank wearing a floral print dress and a long blond wig. The man said he was going for a Marilyn Monroe look, but organizers of the carnival fundraiser in Bloomsburg, Pa., said he resembled Levine.

“Dr. Levine? Thank you. You were a hit and raised a lot of money for the local fire companies. Wonder why so many were trying to dunk you?” the Bloomsburg Fair Association wrote in July on Facebook, adding a smiling emoji, before deleting the post.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought hate and transphobia into the spotlight through relentless comments and slurs directed at Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine, who is a highly skilled, valued, and capable member of my administration and Transgender,” Wolf wrote in a statement at the time. “The derogatory incident involving the Bloomsburg Fair is the latest of these vile acts, which by extension impact Transgender people across the commonwealth and nation.”

In 2015, Wolf first appointed her as Pennsylvania’s physician general, the state’s top doctor. Impressed with her background in behavioral and mental health, the state Senate voted unanimously to approve her, paying little attention to her gender identity during the confirmation process.

“With very few exceptions, my being transgender is not an issue,” she told The Washington Post in 2016, declining to comment on an attack by a former Florida congressman.

But after Levine received a promotion to become Pennsylvania’s health secretary, the coronavirus raised her profile across the state. As she sought to contain the pandemic with aggressive social distancing rules, it also made her the target of more frequent abuse.

Last May, a radio personality repeatedly misgendered Levine, calling the health secretary “sir” at least three times while questioning her on the state’s coronavirus response. A commissioner at a township near Pittsburgh said he was “tired of listening to a guy dressed up like a woman.” After Pennsylvania ordered its residents to wear masks at all times in public, a Facebook page run by one town shared a meme referring to her as “a guy who wears a bra.”

transgender's a great qualification for office.   Good to see Biden embracing people of all races  sex, genders, etc etc.   Making America great one cabinet/administration pick at a time.

My main issue with her is how she handled Covid.....and the way they crushed businesses in my state (mostly announcing changes about 6 hours before they took effect).  I attached the article so others could read about her.

The 95-year-old mother of Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine moved out of a personal care home after cases of COVID-19 were reported there, Dr. Levine and the Department of Health confirmed.

Dr. Levine was questioned about the move at her daily news conference on Tuesday. She noted that personal care homes are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Human Services, not under her oversight at the Department of Health.

“My mother requested, and my sister and I as her children complied, to move her to another location during the COVID-19 outbreak,” Dr. Levine said. “My mother is 95 years old, she is very intelligent, and more than competent to make her own decisions.”

Though additional questions submitted to Dr. Levine Friday were not asked at that day’s news conference, in a phone call afterwards the department spokesperson April Hutcheson said that the move was a “very personal decision” made by Dr. Levine’s mother, not Dr. Levine.

“Her mother weighed her options, and that was the decision she came to,” Ms. Hutcheson said, adding “this is one woman’s personal decision.”

She said that the action does not reflect any sort of recommendation or policy on the part of the Department of Health, and that their role — with respect to nursing homes, not personal care homes — is to ensure that the administrators of nursing homes follow infection control procedures, have the supplies and other support needed, and keep residents safe.

“The Department of Health would not make that kind of recommendation,” Ms. Hutcheson said. “We are dealing with the facility and facility owners.”

Ms. Hutcheson would not confirm the personal care home in question, where Dr. Levine’s mother was moved, or whether she had been tested for COVID-19 before leaving the facility. Releasing any of the three details, she said, would be a violation of medical privacy laws.

This was our latest shut-down......

https://www.ydr.com/story/news/2020/12/10/canceling-christmas-new-pa-covid-restrictions-going-place-saturday/3884788001/

For millions of Pennsylvanians, the COVID-19 pandemic will provide a most unwelcome gift this Christmas: a wide-ranging shutdown of businesses and gatherings as the state grapples with its most massive and dangerous surge in infections and hospitalizations to date.

Indoor gatherings and events of more than 10 people and outdoor events of more than 50 people will be prohibited, as well as indoor dining at restaurants, Gov. Tom Wolf announced — no doubt shifting the way many people planned to celebrate the holidays.

The restrictions going into effect Saturday will remain in place for at least three weeks, meaning the commonwealth will not emerge from the latest orders until at least Jan. 4.

Casinos and movie theaters, indoor ice rinks, bowling alleys and bingo halls also will have to temporarily shut down.

And if you thought holiday shopping lines were bad now, just wait. The new restrictions order all retail businesses to operate at 50% capacity, down from 75% capacity.

Gov. Tom Wolf confirms the first presumptive positive cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Pennsylvania during a news conference March 6, 2020.

The timing of the rules is the latest blow in a year full of them for businesses and to the psyche of Pennsylvanians, who for months have lived with the threat of the coronavirus hanging over their heads. Owners have been battered by coronavirus-related restrictions and hoped the holiday shopping season would throw them a desperately needed lifeline.

Since the pandemic first took hold in Pennsylvania, Wolf has faced criticism from Republican lawmakers for how he has handled the pandemic. And on Thursday, Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, the Republican House Majority Leader, who represents Centre and Mifflin counties, condemned Wolf for "canceling Christmas."

"Gov. Wolf, do not cancel Christmas," Benninghoff said in a statement. "Do not use your executive order pen to devastate lives and livelihoods."

Benninghoff said the governor's orders will do more long-term harm economically, emotionally and mentally, and he believes Pennsylvanians are capable of behaving responsibly without restrictions in place.

"I recognize we are facing a serious resurgence of COVID-19 and our health care systems are struggling to keep up with the increased demand," he continued. "However, job-crushing, harmful government mandates are not the answer. Canceling Christmas is not the answer."

State leaders across the board have said they hope to avoid draconian measures such as the statewide lockdown Wolf ordered in the spring. But as the number of positive cases continues to rise, so does the positive test rate in counties across the state and their transmission levels.

On Thursday alone, the state reported an additional 11,972 coronavirus cases, and a total of 12,010 fatalities. And once again, more than 5,000 people with coronavirus infections are hospitalized in Pennsylvania — quadruple the number from Halloween.

Desperate times call for drastic measures, officials said. And although Wolf largely faced criticism for Thursday’s actions, he did find support from some Democrats willing to speak out in favor of his decision.

"I commend Gov. Wolf and Secretary Levine for taking this difficult, but necessary, action to contain COVID-19 in Pennsylvania," said U.S. Sen. Bob Casey. "There’s no question that these measures will result in real challenges for restaurant owners, workers and families. That’s why it’s vital that Congress do its part to come together and pass a COVID-19 relief bill to help those impacted by this pandemic."

Though the additional restrictions are undoubtedly a hardship for many, Wolf said they were "required to make sure we get through the surge as quickly as possible and saving as many lives and preventing as many infections as we possibly can."

As bleak as things are now, the ceiling of the surge may be yet to come, as experts say the ramifications of travel and gathering for the Thanksgiving holiday have yet to be fully realized.

However, state officials say there is light at the end of the tunnel as companies begin to roll out their initial shipments of COVID-19 vaccines.

Secretary of Health Rachel Levine said Thursday she anticipates Pennsylvania to start distributing the Pfizer vaccine to health care workers next week and to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities at the end of December.

"Hope is on the horizon," she said.

Me personally, I'm more worried about the drunk drivers that almost hit me on two occasions.

Every week our paper has pics of accidents that look like a demolition derby.

not all that much worse than the cities here in NH.  I would not want to live in parts of Nashua or Manchester and Portsmouth and Concord really aren't big enough to be real cities.

Not sure the article posted covers this, but the Bloomsburg fairgrounds decided to help local volunteer firecompanys by letting them put on their carnivals at the fairgrounds so there would be plenty of room to social distance.  After the dunk tank incident, Wolf made new restrictions so as the carnivals couldn't be held at all after that, just because someone picked on his beloved transgendered health expert.

Evidently it forgot to get it's shoulder's broadened during the operation.
