Joe Biden warned gun manufacturers during a speech in South Carolina on Monday night that “I’m coming for you, and I’m taking you down.”

Biden has cast himself as a relative moderate in recent months on gun-control. His campaign’s gun control plan, which was released in October, proposed reinstating an “assault-weapons ban” and universal background checks, but would not force the current owners of semiautomatic rifles to sell the guns to government, as a number of his opponents proposed.

While he’s avoided aggressively targeting gun owners, Biden has previously emphasized his commitment to holding gun manufacturers liable when one of their products is used in the commission of a crime.

“A guy has 12 assault weapons with bump stocks, which means you can fire it faster. You can pull the trigger faster,” Biden said last week during a CNN town hall, referencing the Las Vegas hotel shooting. “Why in God’s name should anyone, anyone, anyone, anyone be able to own that? It’s just wrong, and we’ve got to — and I promise you, as president, I am going to get these guys.”

 

I promise you that if I am elected president, we will hold gun manufacturers accountable for the carnage they have caused.

As Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) has risen in the polls, Biden has taken to criticizing the Vermont lawmaker’s early career record on gun control, pointing out that Sanders, who was endorsed by the NRA in his 1990 congressional race, voted against gun control legislation on a number of occasions as a young House member.

“It’s just flat-out immoral, it’s just flat-out immoral,” Biden said Thursday at a meeting with members of the anti-gun group Moms Demand Action in Nevada. “You know, committed Republicans and some Democrats — like Bernie Sanders — voted five times, five times against background checks and waiting periods; notwithstanding the fact that millions of people were denied having access to weapons of destruction because they didn’t qualify.”

We face an epidemic of gun violence in this country. A significant majority of Americans want commonsense gun reform. But the NRA, now a full-fledged, right-wing political organization, spends millions on TV and internet ads attacking candidates who dare to stand up for what voters want. We must:

  • Take on the NRA and its corrupting effect on Washington. The NRA has become a partisan lobbying public-relations entity for gun manufacturers, and its influence must be stopped.
  • Expand background checks.
  • End the gun show loophole. All gun purchases should be subject to the same background check standards.
  • Ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons. Assault weapons are designed and sold as tools of war. There is absolutely no reason why these firearms should be sold to civilians.
  • Prohibit high-capacity ammunition magazines.
  • Crack down on “straw purchases” where people buy guns for criminals.

NRA Slams Bernie Sanders' Tyrannical Assault on American Gun Rights  

The National Rifle Association issuing a rebuke against socialist and Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders' calls for unilateral gun confiscation in the United States. 

 

"Bernie Sanders is no longer hiding his real agenda when it comes to our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.  He’s not only calling for a future ban on the sale of commonly owned firearms, but also total confiscation of firearms that are lawfully owned right now," NRA Institute for Legislative Action Director Chris Cox released in a statement to Townhall. "Just like Australia, New Zealand is proposing prison time for those who don’t turn in the guns they currently own.  Bernie Sanders says that’s what “real action looks like”.  That may be what socialism looks like, but it’s not what American freedom, guaranteed by our Constitution, looks like."

Overnight, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced a ban of all semi-automatic firearms capable of accepting a magazine that holds more than five rounds of ammunition. It is effective immediately and those who do not comply will face heavy fines and prison time.

America has “a corrupt political system” run by drug, fossil fuel and insurance companies – and the National Rifle Association (NRA) – Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) claimed during the Democrat presidential candidate debate Thursday.

Asked if he supported ending the filibuster, Sen. Sanders said he didn’t, because there are “a variety” of other ways to quickly effect his agenda, which he promised to do in order to fix the current “corrupt political system.”

 

Sanders, then, accused President Donald Trump and Republican leadership in Congress of being “intimidated” by the NRA – and promised that, as president, he would not be intimidated:

“What I support, absolutely, is passing major legislation, the gun legislation the people here are talking about. Medicare for all, climate change legislation that saves the planet. I will not wait for 60 votes to make that happen. And you can do it in a variety of ways. You can do that through budget reconciliation law. You have a vice president who will, in fact, tell the Senate what is appropriate and what is not. What is an order and what is not.

“But, I want to get back to a point that Elizabeth made. And that, in fact, in terms of gun issues, picking up on Cory and Beto and everybody else, what we are looking at is a corrupt political system.

“And that means, whether it is the drug companies or the insurance companies or the fossil fuel industry determining what's happening in Washington – or, in this case, you got an NRA which has intimidated the president of the United States and the Republican leadership.

“I am proud -- I am proud that year after year, I had an "F" rating from the NRA. And, as president, I will not be intimidated by the NRA.”

I've been hearing that my whole life. They said Obama was going to ban guns. Obama sold more guns than anyone in history. The biggest threats to 2a are Republicans.
