they prolly think that you are a drug dealer

I know for a fact many do.  It kinda used to bother me too.  Seriously.  I mean, I hate stumping for the guy but Ramsey covers it all pretty well.  Society has been trained to make people that pay cash/no debt into villians.  Also, banks tend to try and make it hard for you live that way too.  Know how many times I have to wait "just a few minutes" in an office or conference room to GET MY FUCKING MONEY OUT!!!!!!!!!!  The last time at Wells Fargo I just closed the accout.  And I almost caused a scene in doing it.  It was like they weren't going to let me as they shuffled me from one person to the next.  I mean, GIVE ME MY FUCKING MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!

I now use my local banks...much better!!!

According to Dewflunky at Cap One, all that may show it an open ended line of credit but no actual rating unless I've held a consistant balance.  But, I could easily call back and get a different answer.  I had to get some new cards due to some fraud activity so I just inquired as to my recent ATT affair.  The same happened when signing up for insurance.  Nothing.  But that lady told me they only pull the last three years?  Beats me.

It's been interesting not having it...and watching people try to understand why I don't.  I am NOT a model citizen according to our banking industry.  I know that for sure.

what the bureau receives from the credit card company every month is the amount of the balance when they issued the statement and what the limit is and whether last months payment was made on time which is reflected as a 1(30 days late is a 2, 60 a 3 etc).  The system has no way to know if you paid just the minimum or all of it just that an on time payment was made.   with 2 cards you should generate a score but maybe not with all 3 bureaus depending on how they report and some inquiries are only for a single bureau as it's cheaper to the vendor.

issue these days is lots of banks don't carry much cash and they have a lot of required reporting that the regulators rip them over the coals on if someone looks like they are layering money in.  Last 2 times i bought sleds i needed 8500 and 4500 and they couldn't give me enough large bills which is ridiculous but thats the way it goes these days.

Yeah...I don't know.  I actually thought about doing a few of those free credit report things a while back just to see.  Then I thought....NO WHEY.  I don't want it to make me "light up" the board or something.  I don't know that's what it may do, I really have no idea how that shit works.  This is kind of grown into an obsession for me now.  It's sorta fun.  I think I could drop off the whole radar system all together if I wanted to.  I probably would if I were single.

I think how that question is asked might have had an effect,  how much do you have in your savings,  well for most living paycheck to paycheck they just have a checking and maybe some sort of small retirement plan.  I see customers real picture every day it's scary how even "successful" people have very little in assets.  I see people into their 50's and 60's all the time with next to nothing in retirement or savings.  Then i get the kid whose 30 with 100k saved up because they got a good job and didn't just consume it all.  End of the day it comes down to whats important for the person and for most it's consumption.

X2

ill just add lack of wage growth/purchasing power has compounded many of these problems. :bc:

Yeah...I get that.  But it's gotten a bit much.  It's pretty clear banks (and not to get all @f7ben consipiracy here) and the Fed don't want us using our cash for anything.  They want a good "bead" on everybody and their spending habits and our to's and for's to keep up us in the financial game.  Here's where @motonoggin comes in with some of his rhetoric that has some truth to it, our whole world economy now revolves, and relies on debt.  And individual debt is a HUGE money maker...and makes the world go 'round.

I get my own hypocrisy for doing what I am doing though.  I want a strong economy, I just don't want to participate like they say I should.  Oh well.

Remember when our grandfathers used to say, "If you can't pay cash for it, you can't afford it"?  Lots of wisdom to that.  And our big ticket items wouldn't cost so much if people did it more.  Ahhhh.....I'm afraid it's never to be again though.

My bank wants a few days notice if you want that kinda money. They just don’t keep that much around anymore.

the cost of the bank is built into everything you buy so paying cash makes zero sense, i'll take my rewards because i'm not getting a cash discount anywhere but the gas station and there i pay through the app and get my 10 cents a gallon off.

Same here. Cumbies!

Bro... We recycle by the ton and scrap yards are still paying in cash but its starting to fade. But now if you want cash you have to call ahead and they are photo copying your drivers license. Or else they will write you a check which is kinda the preffered methods these days. All bank branches are down sizing their # of tellers as they are trying to push for more online banking and electronic transfers. Im thinking cash has no more than 10 years left.

it's real easy to generate a credit score and not pay interest,  keep 3 credit card accounts open,  use less than 25% of their limit and pay them off each month.  gives you history, utlilization and no costs.

And I doubt your credit card company is only reporting when you ask,  that makes zero sense

We put everything we can on the card. Always pay them off.  We get a flight out West every year paid for by the people who carry a balance on their cards.  That's really nice of them.

I'l be debt free again as of today! I bought a newer car when a deal came up I couldn' pass over.

I was off work sick when I did so I used my line of credit. Always had the cash to pay it but I'm a cautious/ conservative spender. Been paying $2000/month as I have no other debt.

I like to buy one thing at a time. Pay it off. Then get something else.

Been saving since my first week at my present job. 20 years now. I have as much in there as my company pension. I look at guys 20 years my senior still working and still buying. They're fucked!

Just been back a couple weeks to find out this kid bought a $300000 house! He has a new truck. Partying all the time. Vacations. He' fucked!

They don't realize. They don't care. Their attitude is he bank an come get it. I'll Start over!

Theft has changed the scrap yard practices.  It is all about tracking.

People just don't like to use cash as much now, hence the bankers needing/wanting less tellers.  I don't see cash going away, but I do see it getting more difficult to use.

People do spend more readily when they do not use cash.  Casinos love those cards they issue.  Impulse buys at retail are much higher with card purchases.  There is a lot of data to back those facts.  Maybe our love of cards is part of the problem with people not saving?
