Interest rates were already coming down. Tariffs will cause inflation and will stall or reverse the interest rate reductions. If his Tarrifs turn into trade wars that will cost jobs. 
 

The number one thing both countries could do to reduce housing prices is make it illegal for corporations to own houses and condos.  Corporations should only own apartment buildings. There is Zero chance of Conservative governments on either side of the border doing that.

The true CPI and output to GDP numbers have been shown over the last year, to have seem flawed, if not outright fudged and ignored, to allow for interest rates to be lowered.

I hope I'm wrong but things may quickly get worse, not better.

The financial model for building rental units is past the tipping point of unaffordable, from the building side and the renters side.

Lessening the demand by expelling those without the right to be here, at the pre approved time they should leave, is by far the fastest way to free up housing.
