They get an entire lifetime of handouts from the government but still live like absolute slobs! Their houses look like shit are filthy on the inside. Their yards are just mud with some patchy tundra grass and and a dog house made out pallets and old tin siding. They leave their broken atv's sitting where ever they broke down, same with their outboards motors. Drop trash all over the village. Plus they get 5g internet in all the villages these days.

Then blame the white guy for their lot in life.

It is a really sad existence.

We saw way more of the rez life then we ever cared to see out racing.

I'm 99% certain some tribes move people into their casinos during the winter.  Saw what we think was a lot of that this last weekend.

I know they send old hotel/casino furniture out to the rez.

One year, we stay right at the casino we were racing out of.  First race that year, rooms were fully furnished.  Bed, nightstand, table, chairs, sofa, desk and chair, etc.  Next race, a bed and a nightstand was all that was left in every room.  We saw the employee van roll in from the rez with a empty trailer.  When it left, it was heaped full of all the shit from the rooms.  Never stayed there again.

One year we were supposed to race out through the rez and back.  There was a murder the night before, so they had to re-route the race course early that morning since the whole rez was blocked off.

they have a mortgage….   Government builds/installs the house.  Then you have a mortgage that takes a certain percentage of your working income as your mortgage payment.  You don’t work you pay nothing.

i shit you not I was in a village I saw one of these homes and watched the resident cut the front door out of this almost brand new home. Build a plywood entry that was big enough so they could park their snow machine and Honda inside to work on them.

In Minnesota on the West side of Mille Lacs?  There is a place like that there.

When I was around 10 years old my father was approached by a man who wanted him to take over the building of homes on the reservation in Princeton, Maine. Seemed the current administrator couldn't get things done due to being concerned for his safety, among other things.

My father took the job on the condition he got the biggest, baddest Indian to be by his side the whole time. He managed to get the job done. Within 6 months they asked him to return and repair all the houses that were basically made unlivable due to misuse and just plain destroying them.....

He said fuck you... live in your hell hole and like it....

Tyrant Timmy and his clan will make sure they get them some money too.  Even some extra with no consequences.

Years ago, we were out driving around Appalachia and the reservations remind me a lot of that.

Did you ever race in bellecourt, nd? They had that on the schedule in the early days of uscc. I'm used to seeing rez life around home and the cabin in mn but It was like a 3rd world country up there

I had to text a couple people about that race.  That was before my time.

I know they wanted USXC to go back there for an annual race, but that never happened.

There were lots of placed that wanted to host racing back in the day, but the tribal feuding would let some or most of them happen, the lack of money others, the lack of snow others, and the lack to time the rest of them.

It was a cool course layout. You wouldn't think nd would have woods and ravines like that. It's too bad about the tribes not getting thier shit together, lot's of good possibilities for races. Up here by me you could do a 50mi lap of mostly logging rds if the casino would get on board. Pat mach tried back in the day but it was too much of a shitshow here

A small group of us talk race locations a couple times a year with Brian, or he'd ask us our thoughts.

There was 2 or 3 different groups that wanted him to go West and try to get XC racing re-started out there (Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, etc.)  I guess all kinds of racing (snox, oval, and XC) used to be pretty big out there until the mid-late 2000's.

One group ran a series for a couple of years in Colorado, but I haven't seen anything out of them for a while now.

Yeah idaho used to be big for xc. I was out of it when brian took over after pat died. It's too bad there isn't any local xc stuff in wi like there used to be before cor took over usxc. It'd be fun to do a few again closer to home

what's the issue(s) with having XC races in WI or MI ?   idk, but I'd speculate no club would want their trails closed for an event even for a couple hours on a weekend, and the up north traffic is ludicrous.  COR used to do some lake races here but I think that ended after taking over USXC... at least they've brought a few ski hill races back over the past few years.

anyway... HSR is never getting his $  :bong:

From what I remember if the race was on public land it was a dnr permitting issue. The trails in park rapids are really busy but they get shut down for the races without causing problems. Here in bayfield co they could run on mostly logging rds and leave the trails open but ar the time it was being discussed the forest service and dnr wouldn't give them permits. I'm not a fan of the ski hill races, wish they still did a real xc  spring race in munising, mi. Awesome course, nice weather and plenty of snow

You still need a core group of racers in the region you are racing in.  Everyone out west that used to race either has a mountain sled or doesn't ride at all anymore.

USXC/COR racers really aren't going to tow 1000+ miles out West to race once a year.  Maybe once ever, but that would be about it.  I wouldn't have gone more then once.

Almost all the XC racers in North America are either in MN/WI/ND/MB (COR), Quebec (EECC), the North East (AXC/NEXC), or Alaska and way northern Canada.  USCC East (RMRXC?) is pretty much the AXC/NEXC racers plus the newcomers.

Alaska and nothern Canada do not have any series, as far as I know, just town/village races.

Outside of those groups, nothing exists for modern XC racing.

I seem to recall there being a XC race up by L'Anse or Baraga several years ago... there was footage on FB once upon a time.  was just watching some of the hill race live on FB 'live' a few minutes ago and their feed went down or timed out...

from an organizers POV, it has to be an enormous PITA just to put one event together, let alone a string of them

which series is @Palu49 messing about in?
