Disney STRIKES BACK and says Florida is responsible for its $2B bond debt after Gov. DeSantis stripped it of 55-year-old special status

Recommended Posts

They won't be....the first law passed stripped Disney of its special status,  a second more comprehensive law is being written now allocating the debts back to Disney.

I know you want DeSantis to take a loss, but it won't happen..sorry 😐

If not, $2b is a very small price to pay for the protection of our kids.....

(The teacher's union told us so!)

That should hold up well in a court of law if challenged. Also, really consistent messaging for future businesses “hey, here are some incentives to come build your business in FL that may or may not go away (along with backdating) at any moment depending on who’s in office.”

Contractual agreements will be settled in court. Disney has lots and lots of cash to drag this out all the way to the top. It'll be fun as hell to watch.

does the tax increase mean that the locals were paying less due to disney? around here we had the dep watershed. reservoir feeds nyc it's water. anyone living in the "watershed" had subsidized taxes from nyc. so big houses with a view of the reservoir were paying 400 a year in taxes , nyc paying the rest. well nyc saw through that, and it went back to " normal" . now those big houses are crying . they have a 4k bill instead of 400. anyone else has BEEN paying the 4k. basically it just evened things up. it's not like they own the reservoir, just live near it. why should they get any break?

You'd be happy with a retroactive law that forces taxes and fees on corporations?

Me not so much....

Repossess the place and sell it at auction

That too is a scary thought.

On a whim a government can seize assets and sell them.

That as well me no likey.

True dat.

I could retire now and some late gen x'er can pay me $50,000 a year (tax free for me),  for the next 20 years for about half of my house..and that's without any interest.

It's tempting..
