You're not wrong, I hung around with a group of people where encounters with the police were common. I became an expert at dealing with the police. Acting like a dick head will get you treated like a dick head. But police have to follow the law also, I have seen many gross abuses by cops in my life. Just because someone is being a dick head doesn't mean the cops get to take the law into their own hands. This stuff isn't new it's just being filmed more now. Cops can be some dirty lying mother fuckers. If you ever get the chance to talk to a judge, ask him if he ever had a case where he knew the cop was lying.
