Sounds like the pipeline is going to be over 80 ft below the river bed with shutoff valves on each side of the river.  Even if it did leak who is to say it would even leak into the river before it was shut off.  Its using heavier and stronger pipe in the river section so a leak if happens will prolly happen elsewhere

you're not familiar with what happened here in Michigan in talmadge creek are you?

You'd understand why that isn't good enough if you were familiar.

This is exactly the kind of hubris I'm talking about. We think we've thought of everything, but we haven't. And we won't know it until something bad happens.

Dont live your life on the chance something bad will happen.  Dont let the unimportant things scare.  The pipeline isnt on indian land and has a very small chance of polutting the river in your life time. The sooner we pump all that oil out of the ground the sooner the pipeline will be shutdown.  The pipeline will get built and be very successful in transporting oil the greenest possible way.  A train full of oil could derail dumping its product in the river as well.

the indian clean water is soon to come from 70 miles away once the project is completed next year tapping into mobridge treatment plant.  Way far away from this pipeline!!!

So we just saddle future generations with the cleanup and environmental consequences.

Sounds dickish and irresponsible, but ok

Future generations need oil and alot of it...  they will appreciate this pipeline in the future!

your 6b disaster sounds like its cleaned up and alot of of the damage could have been contained if alarms would have been paid attention 2.  Either way standing rock new water intake is 70 miles away and their is a very very small chance that their water would be effected long term on a spill.  The pipeline that broke in michigan was put into service in 1969.  The standing rock pipeline is like 2016 technology!  Pretty darn safe!

That's what they thought in 69, too.

And that's what they thought when they built the Fukushima reactors.

And 3 mile island.

And line 5 across the straits.

And on, and on...

Who's the ones protesting

I guess everyone just exists in a vacuum, and there are no consequences for irresponsible actions or poor planning. Nothing bad ever happens that leads to a chain of even worse events.

Especially when you poison an aquifer. That just buffs out, no problemo...

Yep and things are alot more safer now in 50+ years of technological advancement.

their is more oil leeching in the ground from indian own broken down cars on that reservation then this pipeline will leak into the the missouri river.

Like I said, hubris.

We will all die from slowly poisoning ourselves because of it.

We are living longer and longer.if you lived in the day of the pharoahs you would be lucky to see life outside of your teens.

Your grandkids or great grand kids will prolly have life expectancy well into there 80's even with gmo's and increased case of cancer caused by smoking marijuana

"Even though the pipeline never crosses the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, Energy Transfer Partners has attempted to be a good neighbor by offering water testing and monitoring, as well as significant community support to the tribe," the source said. "But time and again the tribe rebuffed or ignored the company's offers demanding, instead, a toll on the crude that passed through the pipeline, an ultimatum that showed the tribe's true desire — easy money."
